Chiefs at Eagles: Preview and OPEN THREAD

When the Kansas City Chiefs travel to meet the Philadelphia Eagles today at noon time (CDT) it will offer their head coach, Andy Reid, the chance to cement his place in the NFL history books by becoming the first — and only — coach, so far, to record 100 victories with two different teams.

Reid hasn’t done that alone of course. One of the players he’s had with him ever since he came to Kansas City, is a tight end who he drafted the first year he was here in 2013, Travis Kelce. Reid may have taken our famous tight end, because he also drafted his brother while with the Eagles, OC Jason Kelce.

Interesting that Travis Kelce won his Super Bowl ring two years after his brother, Jason Kelce, won his ring in 2017. Familial familiarity goes a long way with Mr. Reid (to a fault). One person who doesn’t fall into that category is the Chiefs newest wideout: Josh Gordon.

Ruled Out Today

Also reported by our David Bell:

“We have pushed Dicaprio Bootle to the Active Roster due to Fenton sitting out in CP. At the same time, with Clark sitting on splinters again, Josh Kaindoh has moved up to the game day roster.”

The Final Injury report looks like this:

Game Time Weather

Here’s a look at the weather for today’s game in Philadelphia.

Ranks and Projections

The Philadelphia Eagles Offense ranks 30th in the league while the Chiefs offense ranks 2nd. We know the Chiefs will be able to move the ball well vs. the Eagles defense, so the question is: can the Chiefs defense improve enough to hold their lowly offense a few enough points for K.C.’s offense to outscore them?

The Kansas City Defense is ranked 31st in the league (and it’s hard to believe any team has a worse defense, but just be glad you don’t live in Detroit)… while the Eagles defense is ranked #10 overall.

Here’s Charles Davis on the batttle between the Chiefs and the Eagles:

A Must-Win Situation?

This should be a bounce back week for the Chiefs. Let’s hope they can dig themselves out of that defensive hole they’ve been mired in since week one. Offensively, assuming they can hold onto the ball, these Chiefs should have a heyday.

In the division… the Broncos are likely losing to the Ravens. The Raiders are likely losing to the Chargers in So-Fi Stadium in L.A.. So, if K.C. can beat the Eagles, they’ll only be one game out in the AFC West Division. However, if the Broncos or Raiders win, and the Chiefs lose to Philly, it would be much harder to make up 3 games in the division. Even so, it’s doesn’t feel like a “must-win” game situation. I know David Bell disagrees. What do you think?
