Chiefs at Jaguars, 2019 Regular Season Game 1: OPEN THREAD

Chiefs at Jaguars, 2019 Regular Season Game 1: OPEN THREAD – it was the best of times, it was the worst of time… well, best in the sense that our Kansas City Chiefs have the best offense in the NFL… and worst in the sense that this offseason has seemed like the longest in recent memory. Before we get to the game, let’s take a look at some recent developments.

The Most Dangerous Man in the NFL

While I understand many fans reticence about having Tyreek Hill be employed by the Kansas City Chiefs, I also don’t believe it’s a good idea to prejudge someone for something they likely didn’t do at all. No matter where you come down on the side of this issue, the Kansas City City Chiefs just gave Hill a new deal to extend him 3 years and more importantly, he is going to play for hte team this year.

On the field of play, Hill is the most dangerous weapon in the NFL. No, I don’t mean he’s the best wide receiver in the league, but he is the most dangerous. The distinction? I believe if you were to ask every CB in the league, who they would least like to cover, the answer would be Tyreek Hill. It’s not just that, it has more to do with the fact that he is so multifaceted and multitalented. His quickness is off the charts and I don’t think anyone else has his elite level of quick-twitch muscles to apply to the task. So, not only is he the fastest man in the league, he’s the quickest… and that combination is deadly. That… makes him the most dangerous man in the NFL.

The Most “Strangerousest” Man in the NFL

I’ve been following sports in America since the 1950s and I can say without a moment of hesitation: Antonio brown is the strangest athlete I’ve ever come across. There was the strange career of RB Ricky WIlliams who couldn’t leave Mary Jane alone long enough to tap his own potential. He was more interested in… “pot” ential. Then there have been the strange early retirements of Sandy Koufax and Jim Brown, as well as Michael Jordan flip-flopping from one sport to another. There’s also the stranger than fiction guys like Dennis Rodman, who parties with Kim Jong-un, the violent dictator. Then there’s the series of strange wideouts this league has produced like Chad “Ocho Cinco” Johnson, and Terrell Owens, but none of them have ever come close the the strangest man in the NFL: Antonio Brown.

First of all, I was happy he was a turncoat on the Pittsburgh Steelers simply because I’m not a fan of their criminal QB, Ben Roethlisberger. Even that was strange but I thought that perhaps his ability to put a strangle-hold on the organization and force a trade was a good thing for other players in the future, players who didn’t want to feel “owned” by a group of owners who decidedly had the most power in their bargaining relationship. Since then however… Brown has just turned blue… and then a shade of colors I’ve never seen, and I can’t even keep up with.

This week, and then officially yesterday morning, Antonio Brown forced a release from the Oakland Raiders, and later in the day signed a new deal with the New England Patriots. Some believe that if Bill Belichick was able to navigate a relationship with Randy Moss ten years ago, then he can deal with Antonio Brown. Brown will be on his best behavior for now, that is certain. Afterall, if he wants to win a championship, he’s taken his best shot with an organization that has a recent success in procuring Super Bowl rings for their players. It just doesn’t seem likely to me that it all works out for the best and if you are a betting man, I’m sure you can get odds in Vegas, that it won’t.

It’s hard to imagine any of that will work out… but… who knows for sure?

Like my old writing buddy from my AA days has stated, I’m not scared of the Pats now either… but, anything to do with AB… is still a scary situation.

Weathering the Weather

Before the game begins, let’s take a peek at the weather forecast for Jacksonville today:

Although it looks like it will be consistently hot for this game, the Humidity will be dropping with no chance of rain at all. The team with the best conditioning should prevail late in this game. Since we know Reid’s teams have been well conditioned in recent years, that should work out in their favor today. Now, it’s time for all good (Chiefs) fans to come to the aid of their countries’ best team, the Kansas City Chiefs! Go Chiefs!
