Chiefs Bolster the WR Corps: Sign Josh Crockett

The Chiefs broke Mini-camp today by dismissing the players from the last day of camp and with several “tryout” players on the roster decided to sign Josh Crockett. Crockett has made several good catches in camp and left the brass impressed enough to earn a ticket to Training Camp next month in St. Joe. Here are Crockett’s vitals (from NFLDraftScout.com):

  • Height: 6-foot-2
  • Weight: 197
  • 40-yard dash: 4.59
  • 20-yard dash: 2.73
  • 10-yard dash: 1.66
  • 225-pound bench: 9
  • Vertical: 41″
  • Broad jump: 137″
  • 20-yard shuttle: 4.50
  • Three-cone drill: 7.47

Josh Crockett is from Central Oklahoma University (UCO) located in Edmonds, Oklahoma just north of Oklahoma City. From NFLDraftDiamonds.com:

  • Where are you from? Bristow, Oklahoma
  • Pre-game rituals? Watch Julio Jones highlights
  • Your favorite NFL team growing up? Baltimore Ravens
  • Who is your role model, and why? My Mom, she always has the right things to say no matter what the situation is. Always encourages me to get better someway. She works so hard to provide for me and my younger brother. She is why I play the game.
  • If you could have dinner with three people dead or alive, who would you choose?  Marshawn Lynch, Keanu Reeves, and Heath Ledger
  • Did you play any other sports growing up? Soccer, basketball, and track
  • Who was your favorite teacher?  Mr.Todd my high school math teacher

Here’s a little oddity involving Josh Crockett and his wide receiving teammate J.T. Luper:

From UCO’s August Training camp last summer:

For the past 5 years the Chiefs WRs have needed to get open before QB Alex Smith would let the ball fly… to a large degree. I’m not so sure things will be that different this year with a first year QB taking the reins. This may be a factor in the reasoning behind the Chiefs inviting Josh Crockett to camp. Although he doesn’t have burner speed like Tyreek Hill, Sammy Watkins, or Chris Conley, if he has solid lateral moves and the ability to hold on to passes thrown his way — or better than someone like Demarcus Robinson who hasn’t shown any consistency in that area — then he may find a place on the Chiefs roster in September. In any event, it’s a long shot. On the other hand, Albert Wilson came from the same country Josh Crockett came from: “UDFA Land.”

In other Chiefs Moves: The Chiefs have signed all 6 of their draft picks now, from the 2018 draft, by signing Derrick Nnadi today. They also signed two other players besides WR Josh Crockett: RB Algernon Brown, and T Bentley Spain. Aslo, it was the end of the line for G Kaleb Johnson, DB Malik Reaves, and RB J.D. Moore who were waived today.
