Chiefs Camp Observations

“There’s no time like the present to get started.” It’s a phrase that encourages someone to take action now instead of waiting. That pretty much describes the Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp and the way each of their participants go about chasing a third ring in a row. I first started writing about the Chief before they were 2-and-14, which was a horrible experience, especially when you consider that most of the Chiefs payers were not taking advantage of the above idiom. Now, we have a head coach and team with much different agendas and that’s oh so refreshing.

The teams finally showed up in pads which means, hitting each other was a legal thing they could do without getting fined by the NFL.

There was a story about a player on the Raiders — #37, Trey Taylor (who likely won’t make their 53-man team) — who used a puppet of Kermit the Frog to mimic Patrick Mahomes voice.

Although the Raiders head coach, Antonio Pierce, debunked that, Andy Reid addressed it directly:

Patrick Mahomes had something to say about it too:

“It’ll get handled when it gets handled.” Wow, not only did Patrick Mahomes not get upset about it, he obviously has a plan for how to handle it. Later. I think we all know what that means.

The 33rd Team makes a great point:

Patrick Mahomes v Raiders (0:40).

Carson Wentz may have had a better day than starter Patrick Mahomes.

Owen Carney Jr. played his college ball for the Fighting Illini and was a UDFA for the Miami Dolphins, but they cut him that same year, in 2022. He is now 25 years old and was picked up by the Bengals.

The article, which was written by Jeff Kerr, Garrett Podell & Tyler Sullivan, says:

My biggest concern for the Chiefs remains the Left Tackle position. Kingsley Suamataia (pronounced: sue-uh-muh-tee-uh) was called upon initially to work with the ones in their first padded practice, but he was beat by both FAU and Mike Danna. Same with Wanya Morris when he finally got on the field. My hope is that Suamataia is a fast learner and can make adjustments. Do I hope Suamataia is the choice? So far, yes.

I don’t expect much out of the newly signed LB Owen Carney Jr., but at 6-foot-3 and 265 lbs. (he’s now up to 275 lbs.) he has the thickness in his body-type to do some damage. We’ll have to wait and see about that.

What do you think?
