What are the chances that the Kansas City Chiefs Wide Receiver Nikko Remigio will make the 53-man roster this year? That, is the question. Remigio played in Orange Country, California and played for the University of California and Fresno State. The Chiefs didn’t draft him, but signed him as a UDFA a year ago. Remigio is a slower version of Albert Wilson and runs a 4.56 – 40 yard dash while Wilson ran a 4.43.
However, Nikko Remigio has had two excellent offseasons, so far, and depending on how he performs in the coming Chiefs training camp and preseason games, he does have a shot at making the team. Let’s take a look at his tape.
.
Perhaps the best way onto the roster is through the Specail Teams as a punt returner. Here’s Remigio last July before his shoulder injury in camp returning a punt (0:15).

Has Nikko Remigio had any experience returning punts? Here’s one he had for a TD while at California (0:25).

.
Did Remigio have any Punt Return TDs while he was at Fresno State? Yes (1:04).

Here’s Dave Toub talking about Nikko Remigio and indicating that his main competition is Mecole Hardman:

Also, just yesterday, Dave Toub addressed WR/RB Louis Rees-Zammit and his possible usage this year (0:21):

If Nikko Remigio is going to make the team, in the long run, he’ll have to make it as a WR. Here he is in a 2023 Preseason game against the New Orleans Saints:

You may be picking up on the idea that I am pulling for Nikko Remigio to make the final 53-man roster and that would be correct. With what we’ve seen out of Skyy Moore and Kadarius Toney, I would think that Nikko Remigio could give the Chiefs a much improved WR on the depth chart.
Here’s how I see the Chief depth chart at WR for now (pre-Training Camp):
Hollywood Brown, Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy, Justin Watson, Kadarius Toney, and Skyy Moore. However, I would hope that Andy Reid and Brett Veach comes to their senses and insert Nikko Remigio BEFORE Toney and Moore. Those first four (Brown, Rice Worthy, and Watson) are a lock at this point, assuming that no one gets hurt between now and the time the season begins.

If indeed Remigio is to make the 53-man roster, as Toub suggests, then the Chiefs may end up carrying 7 WRs on the final roster. If they have some inside information from the NFL about a possible suspension for Rashee Rice, that would appear to be a greater possibility. Where Mecole Hardman fits into this scheme is an unknown to me. However, since they recently re-signed Hardman, you’d have to think they have plans for him. I’d take him over Toney or Moore at this point.
One solution comes from ArrowheadPride in an article called, “Former second-round pick could be on the move” and they are quoting Bleacher Report who has an article called, “1 Player Each NFL Team Should Consider Trading Before the 2024 Season” who points to Skyy Moore as being that possible player. However, that doesn’t seem to be a very likely possibility. In fact, the possibilities seem to be around 0.01%. The possibility of a trade should be considered non-the-less.
What do you think about the Chiefs WR corp? Do you think Remigio makes it? I’m hoping he makes it with or without any inside info on the possible Rice suspension.
