Chiefs Chatter, News, Moves, & Stuff That Matters III – March 22, 2021

What a week, right?!? Kansas City lost a Chief or two, gained xxx more, and made moves to ensure that some familiar faces stay in much-needed places. Ace free-agency experts, ArrowheadOne Editor-in-Chief Laddie Morse and fellow ArrowheadOne author David Bell, have been all over it like ducks on a june bug all week long!

.

.

Accompanying their expert analysis of trades made, players waived, and fans dismayed, our ArrowheadOne readers opined, also, keeping the Disqus discussion boards a virtual smorgasbord of fan-fueled woulda’s, coulda’s, shoulda’s, along with a smattering of huh’s? and WTF’s (Why the Foolishness?)… plus, this is just the first week of what promises to be a wild and exciting offseason of legal free-agency.

.

Please, ArrowheadOne readers, pour your well-deserved, much-needed Monday morning Cup-of-Joe, sit a spell, and let’s dive in and review the Chiefs week that was…. cuz, oh what a week it was!

This Week In Chiefs News

Patrick’s Posse – New Additions

Kansas City Chiefs GM Brett Veach and HC Andy Reid never want to see a repeat of the fiasco, commonly referred to as Super Bowl LV, in which the swiss cheese of an offensive line paid to protect their half-billion dollar rock star QB, Patrick Mahomes, was so uglily revealed. Maverick Veach is on it! Enter veteran free-agent offensive lineman Kyle Long and Joe Thuney! Methinks the future Mrs. Mahomes and mother of his beautiful 1-month old Sterling Skyler is sleeping better already. I know Patrick, Big Red, and Mr. Veach are!

What’s the Rush? Stick Around

The following Chiefs (thankfully) ain’t goin’ nowhere soon: RG Andrew Wylie, RB Darrel Williams, DE Taco Charlton, WR Byron Pringle, TE Nick Keizer, CB Charvarius Ward, LB Ben Niemann, RB Elijah McGuire, and OT Mike Remmers, plus TE Blake Bell is returning after a one year hiatus. I reckon M-V-Pat’s pretty psyched about that, too.

Gone, But Chiefs for Life

We knew that FB Anthony Sherman had been released, as well as offensive linemen Eric Fisher and Mitchell Schwartz (although, he may be back), but cutting RB Damien Williams, who set the 2020 Covid-plagued season out to care for his ailing mother, is a bitter pill to swallow. Williams performance in the Chiefs Super Bowl LIV win over the San Francisco 49ers was MVP-worthy. All of our Chiefs heroes will be missed.

Elsewhere Around the League

Show Me The Money!

The National Football League announced a new 11-year media rights deal this past week. What this deal does could lead to many things, but these are certain:

.

1) Amazon video ads will probably increase with the NFL,

2) Fox losing its Thursday Night Football (TNF) deal with the league is going to hurt — really hurt,

3) Disney will be rolling in money with the lucrative Super Bowl market. It’s estimated that when it’s Disney’s turn in 2026, a commercial spot could surpass $7 million a shot.

Tip of the Hat To the Legend Who Made the ‘Aints the Saints

NFL veteran quarterback Drew Brees announced his retirement from the NFL last week, capping the career of a legend whose career spanned twenty years, from 2001 to 2020 that included stops in both San Diego and New Orleans. The never-say-die quarterback leads the NFL in career pass completions, career completion percentage, and regular season passing yards. Not for nothing, he also holds the record of consecutive games with a touchdown pass. Oops, forget to mention, Brees led the Saints to victory in the XLIV Super Bowl over the Indianapolis Colts, 31-17… as Super Bowl MVP, of course.

Chiefs Quote of the Week

“It’s the renaissance year for me, the rebirth. I understand what it takes to play in this game and be dominant. I’ve been ‘Rocky IV’-ing it man, just locking myself in that cabin and getting after it.”

– New Chiefs offensive lineman Kyle Long.

A Reason To Celebrate This Week

This Thursday, March 25th, America celebrates National Medal of Honor Day. On this day our nation honors all our Medal of Honor recipients. Only the President of the United States (in the name of Congress) can award this medal to US military personnel for personal acts of honor above and beyond the call of duty.

.

NATIONAL MEDAL OF HONOR DAY – March 25

.

Two years after it’s creation in 1861, President Abraham Lincoln authorized his Secretary of War, Edwin Stanton, to present the first Medals of Honor to six members of “Andrews Raiders” for their daring, albeit unsuccessful, American Civil War raid in April 1862. Most of America now knows it as the Great Locomotive Chase.

.

.

To date, 3,507 US military men and women have been awarded the Medal of Honor. 618 posthumously.
