Chiefs Chatter, News, Moves, & Stuff That Matters, IX

Welp, folks, we’re 107 days from the official start of the 2021 NFL season, and I can’t wait. I’m always excited for a new Chiefs season, but have an extra incentive for my eager anticipation because of one of our very own. David Bell, arguably, the most stoic and reserved writer amongst us, is uncharacteristically optimistic about our upcoming season. If you’ve read any of his excellent pieces in the last week or two, then you, too, are smelling what I’m stepping in.

.

.

“The more I think on things to come and the players we will have in place the more I think this team could be the very best of themselves in 2021 and the best roster in the modern era.”David Bell

.

Alas, we still have three plus months before the Chiefs start their #TakeItBack tour. Until then, we can only bide our time whilst myself and the other AO writers report, entertain, and opine.

.

Let’s get at it, shall we?

This Week In Chiefs News

Chiefs Wheelin’ and Dealin’

Chiefs GM Brett Veach and his front office are consistently wheeling and dealing. Last week saw DB Jaylon McClain-Sapp waived and WR Tajae Sharpe’s contract terminated. Brought onboard in their stead were WR Daurice Fountain and DB Manny Patterson. It’s a wonderful time to be a Chiefs fan!

.

Kelce and Kittle Team Up To School Some Fellas

Chiefs tight end, Travis Kelce, is teaming up with San Francisco 49ers tight end, George Kittle, and recently retired Greg Olsen to create a summit for the NFL’s top tight ends. Aptly dubbed Tight End University (TEU), the first summit will take place sometime this summer in Nashville, Tennessee. The goal of TEU is to better unite the tight end position group and improve play across the NFL. So far, 15 players have committed to attending TEU, including 14 veterans and a rookie. It’s expected more players will commit to attending in the coming weeks.

Nick Bolton Turning Heads

With just a few weeks of rookie minicamp under his belt, Chiefs second-round linebacker Nick Bolton is already turning heads and raising eyebrows. Color Chiefs head coach Andy Reid impressed,

.

“He had a nice interception today, actually right in the red zone. He’s Tiger-tough. He’s out there battling. You have to love it. He’s got great instincts. He’s very intelligent. Did a nice job.”

.

.

I’m calling it now. This season’s Defensive Rookie of the Year will boil down to Bolton and the Denver Broncos first-rounder Patrick Surtain II. I’m super-hyped about Bolton in Red and Gold.

.

Elsewhere Around the League

The NFL was eerily quiet this week. Save for the continuing drama unfolding in Green Bay and news of the Atlanta Falcons seeking to trade wide receiver Julio Jones, gridiron news and tidbits were slower than Steve Bono running a 76-yard touchdown.

.

.

Oh, on the absurd news front, the Jacksonville Jaguars signed Tim Tebow to one-year deal to play tight end (we’re pretty sure this does not qualify as NFL news, it’s much closer to absurd). Hopefully, Kelce makes sure he’s not allowed to his Tight End University. Rather, THIS SCHOOL seems a much better fit for Tebow.

.

.

Aaron Rodgers?

Yep. Still a Packer. With Green Bay’s mandatory minicamp starting on June 8th, the latest word is that Rodgers won’t report unless the Packers trade backup quarterback Jordan Love. The two had what’s described as a “tense relationship” in the 2020 season.

Chiefs Quote of the Week

“I’ll just say it will definitely be a change. It’s a lot of games on the body. You’ve got to think about all of the guys that already get injured in the late part of the season. I think it will be bad for the players — but it will be good for the money.”

Chiefs Blast from the Past

I appreciate what Mahomes, Hill, Kelce, and the crew are doing right now for Chiefs Kingdom, but there ain’t no school like old school.

A Reason To Celebrate This Week

NATIONAL HAMBURGER DAY – May 28

.

This Friday, May 28th, marks National Hamburger Day. Why not break out the Weber, charcoal, and lighter fluid to celebrate? Here’s a little hamburger trivia to get you in the mood.

.

  • McDonalds first introduced the Big Mac in 1968, at the absolutely affordable price of 49 cents.
  • Hamburgers and cheeseburgers comprise 71% of beef servings in commercial restaurants.
  • The Hamburger Hall of Fame is in Seymour, Wisconsin.
  • 65% of all hamburgers and cheeseburgers are consumed away from home.
  • It’s rumored that Chiefs head coach Andy Reid never met a cheeseburger he didn’t like.
  • Founded in 1921 in Wichita, Kansas, White Castle is the oldest hamburger chain. The original belly-bombers cost a nickel per burger.

.

.

Also, here’s one Laddie missed yesterday (this omission was done purposely — of course — to coincide with Hamburger Day):
