I know it was Cleveland that hosted the draft last week, but Holy Toledo! The Chiefs have a retooled, revamped offensive line, and I dare say, “Yes, Patrick Mahomes, you do have time to run Wasp, or whatever else you so choose.” In fact, it’s like new papa Mahomes has a brand new bag!

Best Move In the Draft
I’m sure some will label me a homer for this, but I firmly believe the best move of the 2021 NFL Draft was Brett Veach’s move to make Orlando Brown Jr. a Chief, and ensure Patrick Mahomes blind side’s protected for the foreseeable future.
.
.
More Bang for the Buck
No NFL general manager gets more bang for their buck than the Chiefs very own Brett “Maverick” Veach. After trading away the Chiefs first draft pick to nab a much-needed left offensive tackle in Orlando Brown, Jr., Veach picked up two first-round-worthy prospects in the second round — Mizzou linebacker Nick Bolton — #58 — and Oklahoma center Creed Humphrey — #63 — respectively.
.
.
The Creed Humphrey pick was officially new Chiefs Orlando Brown Jr.’s first contribution to the organization, who told head coach Andy Reid to, “Go get Creed.”
.
.
In the remaining three rounds, Veach and his posse nabbed four more potential first year starters: Florida State defensive end Joshua Kaindoh, Duke tight end Noah Gray, Clemson wide receiver Cornell Powell, and Tennessee offensive lineman Trey Smith.
.
.
While only time will tell, this looks to be the best draft that the Chiefs have had in decades, with most of the pundits giving the Red and Gold a grade of A on their 2021 picks. The sheer number of plays Big Red and his coaching staff can conjure up around their existing and, now, added talent is absolutely mind-boggling. I can’t wait!
.
.
Rest assured that ArrowheadOne will deliver several in-depth stories on each of the Chiefs 2021 draft picks in the next few months, along with features on some of the undrafted free agents nabbed by Veach and company (covered in the next section).
.
.
And the Hits Just Keep On Coming
Not being content with the grand slam they hit with their draft picks, Brett Veach and the Chiefs front office wasted no time going after available undrafted free agents. As of this writing, Georgia edge rusher Malik Herring, West Kentucky safety Devon Key, SMU quarterback Shane Buechele, BYU defensive back Zayne Anderson, Louisville cornerback Marlon Character, South Alabama linebacker Riley Cole, and Nebraska cornerback Dicaprio Bootle, are all now members of Chiefs Kingdom.
.
.
Better Late Than Never
This weekend, the Chiefs announced they will induct former center Tim Grunhard into the Chiefs Ring of Honor this upcoming season. Drafted by the Chiefs in the second round of the 1990 NFL Draft, Grunhard played for the Chiefs from 1990 to 2000, starting 164 games for the Red and Gold, third most starts by a player in franchise history, behind only punter Dustin Colquitt, and offensive guard Will Shields.

ArrowheadOne reader and devout Chiefs fan, freshmeat62, commented what all of Chiefs Kingdom was thinking when he opined, “My question is why wasn’t this done 10 years ago?”
.
Elsewhere Around the League
.
.
In other news around the league, wayward wide receiver Antonio Brown re-signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and new BFF Tom Brady. Turmoil is tantamount in Green Bay, as Packers quarterback and guest Jeopardy! host Aaron Rodgers is not a happy camper, threatening retirement or a trade unless the team commits to significant changes in their front office and operations. The Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Jets, and Chicago Bears all spent their first-round draft picks on the best and the brightest of the 2021 NFL Draft quarterback pool, ensuring the utter and assured demise of three otherwise bright and budding careers.
.
.
However, what do all these piddling moves and trifles matter, really? The only NFL news worthy of note this week all centers on Kansas City and the Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes. He’ll now have a bonafide Pro-Bowl caliber offensive line to protect him, and there will be much gnashing of teeth and pulling of hair elsewhere in the NFL for at least the next decade. The very idea of MVPat having time in the pocket to complete all his reads straight-up makes me giddy and gives me gaggles of goose bumps! Get ready NFL writers, researchers, and historians, the record books are all ripe for rewriting and the Chiefs have plenty of pens and paper. Buckle up, because… (to quote the film, “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban“),
.
“It’s going to be a bumpy ride.”

A Reason To Celebrate This Week
Tomorrow, May 4th, is National Teacher Appreciation Day. It’s a day we set aside “as a day for honoring teachers and recognizing the lasting contributions they make to our lives.”
.
.
We’ve all had that one teacher who made each day a little better, a little brighter. An adult who pushed us just hard enough and helped us realize strengths we didn’t even know we had. Take a moment tomorrow to remember your special teacher.
.
Mrs. Hawkins, wherever you are,
thank you so very much.
You were, and are, awesome.
