Chiefs Chatter, News, Moves, & Stuff That Matters, VII

So the draft is over, and the season is nigh. We’re at that point in the year where everything is happening, but nothing’s going on. The NFL pundits all seem to agree that Veach and Reid nailed it in the draft (Narrators Voice: They did), but the proof of the pudding is in the eating. Most of us Chiefs fans have Missouri ties, so “Show Me.”

.

Let’s get at it.

.

This Week In Chiefs News

And The Veach Goes On – On the night and day after last weekend’s draft, Kansas City Chiefs GM Brett Veach picked up multiple UDFAs. However, that wasn’t enough for our over-achieving, ever-charging, golden boy of all GMs.

We picked up a few more this week, along with free agents in the taking, ready for the making! We are rollin’, Chiefs Kingdom!

.

.

Veach, Veach, Veach

Honestly, “Veach” should be a word we enthusiastically embrace in our lexicon.

.

  • Make something happen out of nothing? You Veached it.
  • Got fired then found a higher paying job? You Veached it.
  • Girlfriend broke up with you and you started dating her younger, hotter sister? You double-Veached it!

.

Remember, if you don’t shoot for the stars in life, you’ll never Veach them.

She’s Always On My Mind

Although Mother’s Day is in our rearview mirror, I’d me remiss if I didn’t remind our readers of the heartfelt, tear-jerking ditty ex-Chief Alex Okafor penned to his beloved mother mere months after her death.

.

.

“I haven’t been talking to you as much as I should, and that’s my fault. It’s just that, for a while, every time I thought about you, all I did was cry. All I could see was the image of you lying in that ICU bed. I’d think about how quickly life had changed — and for you, how quickly it had ended. I never even got to say goodbye.”

.

Honestly, guys, check it out. It’s worth the read.

.

Editor’s Note: As Travis has said, it is a wonderful read. I also understand more about why Alex Okafor was a great locker room fit for K.C. too. Incredibly touching.

.

Back to St. Joe? – With the NFL lifting many of their COVID-19 restrictions, it looks as if the Chiefs will head back to St. Joseph, MO for their preseason workouts and a sense of normalcy to the Chiefs, the NFL, and America.

.

Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt is certainly on board, “Our hope and our mindset is that we will be in St. Joe for camp this year. That is something that the NFL has still not made a decision on. I know they’ll have to have some discussions with the union on the protocols that will be surrounding camp, so we probably won’t know here for a month-plus, but we certainly want to be back up in St. Joe. It’s been a great environment for the team. I know Andy (Reid) and his staff really like being up there and think it’s helped us be successful on the field.”

.

Buck up, Chiefs Kingdom. Good times, they are a comin’!

.

Elsewhere Around the League

Look In The Mirror – Since no HBCU players got selected in the draft, folks like Deion Sanders (who, BTW, chose not attend an HBCU when his time came), voiced their displeasure. Make no mistake, this is not a race thing, it’s a recruiting issue. Physician, heal thyself!

Aaron Rodgers Does More Than Commercials,

He’s His Own Soap Opera

Honestly, Chiefs Kingdom, I have no words. None. From a guy like me, that’s saying a lot (pun absolutely intended).

.

Givin’ Him The Business

While the NFL mourns the loss of a great referee, Ben Dreith, let’s take a moment to appreciate the character and wit of an exceptional human being.

Release the Kraken!

The NFL will release of the 2021 NFL schedule is at 7 PM (CST), Wednesday, May 12th, this week (in two days). I can’t wait to see who the Chiefs get to annihilate this season. I can’t wait.
