Chiefs Choke Job: Nixed in Nashville – before we jump into the recap of the Kansas City Chiefs loss against the Tennessee Titans, let me first recognize and acknowledge our Veterans and their families today. America, Chiefs Kingdom, and ArrowheadOne readers & writers sincerely appreciate the sacrifices made, and efforts you’ve made on behalf of our nation. Happy Veterans Day to the real heros of America! Thank you all for your devotion, dedication, and service.

Now, for the bad news: we lost… but you already knew that. I can go down a list of “ifs”…

  • If Winchester had not snapped the ball early …
  • If the WRs had not dropped all those passes …
  • If the team had not committed 9 Penalties …
  • If Mike Pennel had been active for this game …
  • If Cameron Erving …
  • If Blake Bell had blocked Josh Kalu on the final FG …
  • If Butker had not missed …
  • If the run defense had …
  • If Coach Reid had just …

We just lost, it happens. No excuses, no finger-pointing. We lost a game that was a “gimme” which turned into a “gotcha.” On paper, we won the game in the most important categories except one:

• • Time of Possession: Chiefs – 37:51 | Titans – 22:09
  • Total First Downs – Chiefs – 28 | Titans – 19
  • Total Net Yards – Chiefs – 530 | Titans – 371

I’ll not denigrate our defense. They’ve been great in Mahomes’ absence but, they let us down yesterday and… they were not alone. Special teams, once the mainstay of the Chiefs, was lackluster, if not non-existent. We lost 80 yards because of nine penalties. We fumbled twice and lost one. Worse yet, we were but 67% in the Red Zone (Titans were 100%).

To make matters even worse, we had that “oh-so-important” field goal blocked.

However, I have hope. Mahomes is back and is the Mahomes of old. Hill is the quintessential team-player, Kelce is clutch, Watkins and D-Rob take up the slack, but, as Robert Frost once penned, “… and miles to go …“

On the bright side, Mahomes is no longer sidelined! Our QB tossed 0 INTs, 3 touchdowns and passed for 445 yards. Hill caught 11 passes for 157 yards and one TD, while Kelce nabbed seven passes for 75 yards and one TD.

I realize that ArrowheadOne readers might not appreciate my “Rosey” outlook on our current plight, please understand that for the past thirty years… I have believed.

  • When our quarterback was Elvis Grbac, I believed.
  • When our quarterback was Trent Green, I believed.
  • When I could not keep up with the name of our quarterback, I believed.
  • Now, our quarterback is Mahomes, and I believe.

Look, it kills me too, but it’s just a game. Hopefully, we learn from it and move on. I believe in this team. I believe in Mahomes, I believe in Coach Reid, and I believe that these two gentleman will ensure that we are the team we need to be, come January… if we make it that far.
