Chiefs Clinch The AFC 1 Seed, 35-3
by Laddie Morse | December 31, 2018
K.C. trounced the Oakland Raiders at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday. What does that mean for the playoffs? The Chiefs clinch the 1 seed, 35-3.
With so much being made of the Chiefs so-called “bad” defense in recent months, it was the defense that was a major story of this game. Here’s what they produced on the Raiders 10 drives:
Raiders First Half
- 1. FUMBLE
- 2. INT
- 3. FUMBLE
- 4. INT
- 5. FG
- 6. PUNT
Raiders Second Half
- 7. PUNT
- 8. PUNT
- 9. PUNT
- 10. END OF GAME
Although the Raiders held the ball for almost 34:00 minutes and had 20 first downs compared to the Chiefs 18… K.C. produced 408 total yards of offense which included some record setting performances. Let’s begin with the Chiefs MVP candidate QB Patrick Mahomes:
In a league of his own. @PatrickMahomes5 joins the NFL’s 5K club and becomes the first player ever to throw for 5,000 yards in a season at both the collegiate & NFL levels!

Of course Patrick Mahomes could not have accomplished those 50 TDs – 5,000 Yards Passing numbers unless he had great teammates to throw to.
Patrick Mahomes hit Tyreek Hill for a 67-yard touchdown, and with that reception, Hill has just broken the Chiefs' franchise record for receiving yards in a season (Derrick Alexander, 1,391, 2000).

The Chiefs Travis Kelce, has set a new single season receiving mark for Tight Ends:

Here’s the story of the Chiefs offense:
Chiefs First Half:
- 1. TOUCHDOWN
- 2. PUNT
- 3. TOUCHDOWN
- 4. DOWNS
- 5. INT
- 6. END OF HALF
Chiefs Second Half:
- 7. TOUCHDOWN
- 8. TOUCHDOWN
- 9. DOWNS
The only way it gets better than this is… for the Chiefs to win out in the playoffs. This should also clear up who is once and for all, thee best Tight End in the NFL. Travis Kelce has been so consistent for so long now, that he will give Gonzo a run for the money eventually… should he keep this up, and who’s to say he can’t now that he has Captain Pat pitching him treasure troves of loot and booty.
Someone mentioned during the game that Tyreek Hill is the next Travis Kelce because he doesn’t seem to learn that he can’t go taunting the opposition or he’ll get called for a penalty and hurt the team. On Sunday, nothing seemed to hurt the Chiefs and any concerns we’ve had about Hill’s health are unfounded. He looked fast and twitchy and I can’t wait to see him go up against whomever (weekend after next) makes their way into Arrowhead.
Back-to-Back-to-Back
I would be derelict in my duties if I didn’t mention that the Chiefs have now won the AFC West three years in a row. What’s more, it looks like the Chargers will be there only competition for the next couple of years and when Philip Rivers retires, the Chiefs should be able to sustain a dominance in the AFC West for years to come. I know I’m just a Kansas City Chiefs schmuck but… the speech by Justin Houston at the end of this video brings tear to my eyes. Love it, love it, love it!
