Chiefs: Day 9, Another Day With Pads

Yesterday was Day 9 of Training Camp, and Day 12 for QBs and Rookies. However, certain events were revealing. Yes, LB Nick Bolton was injured, but it’s not that serious. On the other hand let’s deal with Kadarius Toney and his injury.

Adam Teicher’s observation brings me to a point about Kadarius Toney. Either the coaches honestly wanted to see what he could do at RB or… they knew he’d likely blow his body up trying to be the star of the show. Looks like the latter is the case. The following information is from DraftSharks.com:

This represents the places on Kadarius Toney’s body where he already has been injured.

These are an explanation of the first graphic, above.

While these graphics don’t look good for Kadarius Toney, he is in a contract year and we should never forget what Terez Paylor said about that, “The contract year is undefeated.” Here’s what DraftShark.com also said about the 2024 season for Toney:

These numbers are low for an injury projection. Then there’s Games Missed since he only started 2 games out of 19 last year, but he played in 13. On the other hand, his 1.50 out of 5.00 Durability rating projection sounds right and a higher score should be recorded if he’s going to stick at RB. By comparison the Chiefs RB starter is Isiah Pacheco whose Durability rating is 5.00. A fair comparison? I think so.

I’m of the persuasion that Kadarius Toney would be better off traded than to stick with K.C.. Yes, I’ve said before that he has some of the best lateral moves since Barry Sanders, but the Chiefs are loaded with players at WR and Toney has injury issues. If K.C. can get even a 7th rounder for him it’s much better than seeing him cut.

On the other WR hand, I’m rooting for Nikko Remigio to make the team. It seems difficult if Toney is still on the roster though and so I’d say let’s trade Toney and keep Remigio. Nikko has been compared to Albert Wilson and I like that comp for him.

While I’d also like to see Mecole Hardman remain on the team, he may not be around come cut down day either. After all, he was traded for from the Jets in October of last year. Yes, he has that Super Bowl winning catch to his resume, but I’m not sure he’s ever developed a positive communication level with QB Patrick Mahomes, and if Veach can get anything for him, his trade value has likely never been higher.

Three team members spoke after practice: Reid, Danna, and Remigio. Andy Reid was first up.

Coach Reid outlines the Injuries for the day but doesn’t seem overly concerned. Nikko Remigio also addresses the media (1:06):

Here’s Nikko Remigio’s full Presser (8:30):

DE Mike Danna also addressed the media yesterday (5:34):

Listening to Mike Danna talk makes me wonder f the CHIefs give lessons in how to talk to the media. He seems like a Reid Clone and he says all the typical jargon: “You got to be ready when your number is called” … “Next man up” … “His work ethic is off the charts” … “We just gotta get after it” … “We’re just excited to get the ball rolling”… … …

Andy Reid says Danna just puts his nose down — doesn’t talk — and brings it all the time. Maybe what he really likes is… when Danna does talk, he sounds like an Automated Andy, or a Reid Robot if you will (0:14).
