Chiefs, Falcons Results

Well, it happened again. The Kansas City Chiefs took their game right down to the wire… beating the Atlanta Falcons, 22 to 17. It was Déjà vu all over again. After “winning” their first two games by the toe of Isaiah Likely and the toe of Harrison Butker, the irony is not lost on me that this game was decided by the slimmest of margins… like a toenail’s width. Immediately following the game, I was asking myself, “when is a win not a win?” Yes, the Chiefs are 3-and-0… but it sure doesn’t feel like it.

There was a play near the end of the game in which a defensive Pass Interference was NOT called on Bryan Cook that maybe should have been called. The Chiefs naysayers will be all over it, of that I am sure (0:09).

The Chiefs DB, #6 Bryan Cook never got his head turned around and because he was in the way, the Falcons TE, #8 Kyle Pitts, never got a chance to catch the ball. The referee was standing right there and when it wasn’t called my first response was that it was a good non-call. Upon further review it should have been a DPI, just as my friend texted me. On the other hand, there were plenty of non-calls in this game on both sides (no, I’m not stealing a political statement).

I thought the Chiefs would win this game going away. By a large margin. That didn’t happen. Not nearly.

Twice in the last 11:22, the Falcons Offense was stopped by the Chiefs Defense. The last time, the Falcons had driven down inside the Chiefs red zone, to the 13 yard line.

I was prepared to talk about why this was a breakout game for Travis Kelce, but he only ended up with 4 catches for a total of 30 yards. He has 12 catches for the year on 69 total receiving yards. That’s right, Travis Kelce hasn’t broken the 100 yard barrier for the 2024 season. Yet. I say yet, because I keep expecting him to have a breakout game. Maybe next Sunday vs the Chargers.

Rashee Rice had 12 receptions in this game. He also had 110 yards receiving.

Here’s more stats on Rashee Rice’s night:

LB Nick Bolton had an excellent game. By saying that, I must note that fellow LB Drue Tranquill is not having a very good season. Nick Bolton made the play of the game (II) and in any event, he came up with the game ending play (0:49):

Left Tackle Wanya Morris had a good game, which may have come as a result of receiving more chip help than Kingsley Suamataia did last week.

Th question is: will Wanya be the starter moving forward?

When Falcons’ Head Coach Raheem Morris and Chiefs’ Head Coach Andy Reid met at mid-field after the game, he said:

The comment of the game comes to us from my friend Chris who texted me after the game and said:

David Bell commented after the game, “That is 3 close games in a row.”

What did you think of this game?
