Chiefs Final 53 Man Roster, First Take

Laddie Morse

With so many different takes on the wide receivers prior to training camp, it makes me wonder what other positions might be as competitive. Consequently, it’s time to take a look at the overall roster and try to gain some insight about who stays and who goes.

The three special teamers are set in stone so we’ll go with the top 50 for offense and defense. Those three special teamers are of course:

The Quarterback situation is nearly as simple:

This third QB doesn’t cont against the 53. He is the extra QB allowed by the league starting this year. Now comes the decision to keep 25 or 26 offensive players. In a conversation with David Bell, I’ve decided to stick with 25 players on each offense and defense.

With 2 QBs, 10 OLs, 6 WRs, 4 TEs and 3 RBs… and that makes 25, then you add in the 3 Special Teamers and you have 28, with 25 defensive players left to go. Let’s begin with the defensive line:

.

On defense, we have 11 DL, 5 LBs, 5 CBs, and 4 Safeties = 25. Add in the 25 offensive players plus the three (3) Special Teamers and you get 53. Plus the extra QB (Shane Buechele), a game day addition.

What do you think?
