Chiefs: Firing Back Against Negative Detractors

Chiefs: Firing Back Against Negative Detractors – There is a lot of positive hype going around about the Kansas City Chiefs, and many media outlets are mistakenly trying to predict the Chiefs future. However, when they’re stating there negative reasons they are not using all the facts. I’m here to point out what they’re missing.

Rebuke the Defactoids

The positive media far outweighs the negative ones, but we don’t want to hear the bad, but without them, good media would have far less topics to discuss. Colin Cowherd is a national sports talk host doing podcasts, but highly controversial facts on most topics and seems to be biased towards his certain favorite teams.

Cowherd’s 5 Reasons for Chiefs Not to Win 5 Super Bowls

#1. Highest paid QB does not win Super Bowls: Well Patrick Mahomes is not the highest paid QB, and probably never will be. I believe Brett Veach is loving the challenge to building a dynasty. And as in previous articles I believe he is going about it the right way. In 2000 no one believed Belichick would do what he has done. In 2000 no one believed Tom Brady would do what he has done. This is the way the world evolves, we cant bring ourselves to believe in the un-believable.

#2. Lamar Jackson: Running QBs do not have extended careers. Running QBs do not win Super Bowls. Only Steve Young has and it was only 1 time. The 2019 MVP who is 0-2 against Patrick is going to stop Patrick? Puzzled? Has Colin even watched those games? Did he watch and observe how the Baltimore players and the HC John Harbaugh strategy played out against Chiefs? This is a whole new topic for a different article at another time, that I will cover soon: “How Opponent’s Strategy is Adjusted Against the Chiefs.” There’s also this, from BCTTIP.me:

“John Harbaugh knows the armchair quarterbacks have been coming for him in the aftermath of Sunday’s loss to the Chiefs. The Ravens coach intimated that taking on Kansas City’s high-octane offense led him to do things a bit differently than he normally would. That included going for two on three occasions and going for it on fourth down four times.”

#3. Drew Lock: Colin has actually predicted Drew to be the next 2nd year QB phenom. We have only seen 5 games from Drew Lock. Is that enough seen to make him the next Peyton Manning? Let’s suppose he does turn out to be that good…. did Peyton block Brady from winning multiple Championships? How good of a HC is Vic Fangio? How good of a OC is Pat Shurmur? Do they know how to use their new found speed? There is a technique and science to it and Andy appears to own the patent. The bottom line is: no Championships on their current Manning-less resume, not for over 20 years running. Plus, the Broncos roster is not near what the Chiefs have. Must have depth for injury replacements and speed does need to rest some also, must stay fresh. This is a huge we’ll see! No guarantees in the NFL Personally, I think Kyler Murray of the Cardinals could be that 2nd year MVP.

#4. If NE gets new QB in next year’s draft: Awful huge if there. We could cover at least anywhere from 6-to-12 different What If Scenarios on this topic. What if Cam Newton turns into a running version of Tom Brady. What if the stress of a Covid season is too much for Belichick and he calls it quits. What if we asked Bill a What If question: what do we think his response would be? I really would get a joy out of that one. What Ifs are a sad state for analysts to be making predictions: that’s like throwing pasta against the wall to see if it sticks. Is that what Colin Cowherd has become?

#5. Winning Super Bowls is really hard. If it’s hard to win for the Chiefs, is it not just as hard for all of the other 31 teams? I’m pretty sure it’s not like a video game where its play difficulty can be programmed at different levels harder for some than others. I do believe recent success can pay huge dividends in terms of experience. Chiefs are 6-to-1 odds to win it this year. That’s easier odds than they had last year. Not many analysts talk about motivation in sports, but it can be a huge deal. No team was more motivated than the Chiefs last year. They had the:

  • lets win it for Andy
  • let’s win it for the Hunts
  • let’s win it for those long suffering fans

Plus, the way they lost to the Patriots in the 2018 playoffs also drove them last year to go all the way to a Championship. Now, is there anyone with more motivation and more winning experience than the Chiefs? They returned a high percentage of players who have the, been there, done that, experience, but because of Covid pandemic shut down starting in March, those players didn’t get to celebrate as they normally would have. So, this coming year I believe they’ll be highly motivated to win one, for themselves, and to do something that many are saying can’t be done.

Deadspin Predicts 0 More SB Wins for the Chiefs

Rob Parker, of Deadspin, wrote a piece called, “Odds Are, Mahomes and Chiefs Won’t Win Another Super Bowl” but he is so far away from reality here that there is not enough space on the internet to rebuke him. He stated

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is image-70-840x30.png

“The Ravens, also in the AFC, aren’t going anywhere. They have just as good a chance to win the Super Bowl next season as the Chiefs do.” Vegas odds 7 – 1. “They have a talented defense and a dynamic QB who hasn’t been figured out yet. Maybe, Mahomes has been.”

The Ravens defense posed a significant challenge to the Chiefs offense, but it was yet another unit that couldn’t slow down Mahomes: 27-of-37, 374 yards, 3 TDs (4 carries, 9 yards). Lamar Jackson was limited to being more of a runner for the first time this season, and that kept the Ravens (2-1) from staying undefeated. Lamar Jackson: 22-of-43, 267 yards; 8 carries, 46 yards, 1 TD. Tennessee Titans also figured out Lamar Jackson in the playoffs. Now other teams have the blueprint. When have Chiefs heard that one? Lamar did not lose this game by himself, but he is now 0-2 in the playoffs and… his 3 turnovers didn’t help.

Parker listed the star QBs who failed to win more than one Super Bowl, but he failed to mention how none of the teams kept the supporting cast around to help the franchise QB. Is he one of the un-informed types who thinks QBs win Super Bowls all by themselves no matter what talent is around them? Greed and player’s individual pride took over after winning. The truth of a Dynasty killer! Now we have seen Mahomes took the ultimate sacrifice of a team favored contract to keep the talent around him. Only one other QB has done that in the last 20 years.

Sportsnaut – Vincent Frank

Another “No More SBs” Prediction written April 29, 2020

Frank wrote a piece called, “Why the Kansas City Chiefs Won’t Repeat as Super Bowl Champs.” This story doesn’t have much newsworthy information to rebuke. He covers all of the AFC Teams that he views as favorites for a playoff run. He mentions very little info on each, then he also offers a little preview info into the 49ers, but no other NFC Team. Frank’s preview of the Chiefs is light, but only the negatives, such as, Bashaud Breeland suspension, Chris Jones in limbo, the offensive line in limbo, and injury prone Sammy Watkins’ signing. He doesn’t include that the new contract has salary incentives based on production, while many perform much better when millions more can be earned. Also, as those of us who are close to the Chiefs know, much has changed since April 29th. Mahomes and Chris Jones have signed, LDT has opted out, and Kelechi Osemele has signed. There is now quality depth for competition at the 3 interior Offensive lineman spots. Even once the Team has figured out this year’s starters, there should still be quality backups for all 5 OL positions. All rookies have signed their contracts, all rookies are in training camp now, and all healthy. There was one Covid Asymptomatic (Alevo Hifo). All QBs are in and healthy. All systems Go!

Adam Rank Predicts all NFL Games

Nick Kendall offered a piece for SI.com called, “Adam Rank’s Bi-Polar Prediction for the 2020 Broncos is an Eye-Opener for Fans” in which he says,

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is image-70-840x30.png

It is dishonest not to acknowledge the Broncos did play an easier schedule over Lock’s five-game sample size, going 4-1 in those matchups, but many have taken notice and are betting on Lock and the Broncos’ offense to be one of the most improved (and exciting) teams in 2020.

So, let’s take a look at the Broncos against the Chiefs in 2020.

Denver Broncos Schedule

Adam Rank’s Prediction: Denver Broncos 11-5

Adam Rank’s Prediction: K.C. Chiefs 10-6

Not much depth into his picks. No rhyme or reason. Just gut feeling picks by him. I don’t see Denver any better than 9-7 or 10-6.

Summary: I Rest My Case

Very few articles have been done anything on the effects of the Covid Pandemic on NFL Teams. There have been statements made about how it will be different and difficult, but I haven’t seen anyone refer to the outcome of the abnormal training camps. New teammate’s will not be able to bond until later in the season… much less than in normal years. Teams and players will not be able to get their timing down as early as in “normal” years. Defenses will not be able to figure out the speed of an opponent’s offense, without live play, which would normally come in preseason games. Players will not be able to get acclimated to tackling and hitting because of limited physical play in practice (and no preseason games). Special teams player will be affected, perhaps more than other players. Every team will be affected in different ways. Those teams with high player turnover and a lot of incoming rookies could be hurt the most. Advantage goes to teams with high amount of returning players. Teams like… the Kansas City Chiefs.

I can see the Chiefs at 13-3 or 14-2. The Jury of the Court has Ruled: the Kansas City Chiefs Repeat as Super Bowl Champions for 2020. Embrace It! Don’t Fight it! Enjoy The Ride!
