Chiefs Flounder in Florida, Filleted, 31-9

Chiefs Flounder in Florida, Filleted, 31-9 – Man, that was ugly! It would have been one thing if the refs were overzealous in their calls against the Chiefs, or if our decimated offensive line was a factor, or even if Big Red had been outcoached… but, it was all those things combined. Add in an anemic offense, a porous linebacking corps, and a gimpy Patrick Mahomes, and you have a recipe for disaster. A 31-to-9 disaster, to be exact. Our Kansas City Chiefs got thumped last night in Super Bowl LV, and despite my eternal optimism, even I can’t sugarcoat the beatdown the Chiefs suffered from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Man, that was ugly!

View from the Cheap Seats

There’s not too much to see or reflect on from the cheap seats when the only player on your team to score any points was your kicker… particularly when the other team scores three touchdowns.

The Chiefs took the lead early with a 3-0 lead, but it was all downhill after that. The officiating was abysmal, particularly during the first half but, that didn’t cost us the game. We lost this game on the line of scrimmage. The ragtag, hodgepodge, mix-n-mash of an offensive line the Chiefs fielded in the biggest sporting event of the year was just not up to the challenge, and quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered mightily because of it.

The Buccaneers sacked Mahomes three times for 27 yards. The Chiefs converted just thrice on 13 third down conversion attempts, and just once on three fourth-down conversion attempts. Additionally, the Buccaneers picked off Mahomes twice and landed eight quarterback hits. They held the Chiefs to 377 yards and limited Mahomes a 52.3 passer rating for his efforts. Between Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians and the flag-happy officiating crew, neither Mahomes nor his Chiefs stood a chance.

Game Song: Rise

Next year is a whole new chapter. Despite my introductory paragraph, my optimism still abounds. The 2021 Chiefs season will bring fresh faces, new challenges, and boundless opportunities. Rest assured, the Chiefs will rise. I can’t wait!

… and the Game Ball Goes To …

Had the officials continued to call the game as they had in the first half, I would have given the game ball to the official’s yellow flag. However, I give it to Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Whether the score was 0-0 as in the start of the first quarter, or 31-9, as it was in the last two minutes of the fourth quarter, our QB was out there giving 100% on every play. Even in the worst game of his NFL career, MVPat is still my MVP. Patrick gets the game ball.

Looking Ahead

The NFL Draft kicks off in a little over two months, on April 29, 2021. Stay tuned to ArrowheadOne for commentary on the Chiefs needs, along with tempting, probable, and possible rookies in Red and Gold when the 2021 season starts.

Parting Shots

As hard as this loss is for us, think about how hard the Chiefs players are taking it. A loss like this, in the biggest game of the year, in front of the entire world, will rekindle the fire in Chiefs like Tyrann Mathieu, Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Mecole Hardman, Tyreek Hill, and more.

That phoenix which rises from the ashes of 2020 will be the 2021 Kansas City Chiefs, and, believe me, they will rise. I’ll be here for it. You should be, too.
