Late the night before last, the Kansas City Chiefs were up after mid-night putting the finishing touches on a trade with the Tennessee Titans that would bring WR DeAndre Hopkins to the Kingdom. Ultimately, the deal didn’t get done until noon-ish on Wednesday.

It’s been speculated that the Hopkins deal was negotiated late into the night on Tuesday with the idea that he could fly to K.C. to be available for Wednesday’s practice. However…

Two offseasons ago, the Chiefs tried to sign Hopkins, but he went to the highest bidder and ended up with Tennessee. From Sportract.com:

“DeAndre Hopkins signed a 2-year , $26M contract
with Tennessee, including $9.815M signing bonus,
$10.980M guaranteed, and an average annual
salary of $13M. In 2024, Hopkins will earn a base
salary of $2,553,889, while carrying a cap hit of

What Number Will DHOP Wear?
sportingnews.com reveals that:

“Hopkins and the Chiefs have yet to reveal what number
he will wear when he debuts for Kansas City.”

Since RB Isiah Pacheco wears number 10, for now, Hopkins will have to choose another number to wear.

In an article for USAToday.com called: “DeAndre Hopkins trade winners, losers and grades: Did Chiefs or Titans win deal?” author Michael Middle-Hurst Schwartz listed the winner as Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and DeAndre Hopkins and he also listed the losers to include JuJu Smith-Schuster. Here what he said about why JuJu was listed as a loser:

“He had an impressive revitalization after Rice went down,
recording seven catches for 130 yards against the New
Orleans Saints. But did the hamstring injury he suffered at
least in part open the door for this deal? While his connec-
tion with Mahomes will allow him to remain in the picture,

the role Smith-Schuster was trying to carve out.”
