Chiefs Handle Jags in Jacksonville, 40-to-26

Chiefs Handle Jags in Jacksonville, 40-to-26 — The Kansas City Chiefs won handily in Jacksonville on Sunday at noon by the score of 40-to-26. The Jaguars won the toss and elected to kickoff first, deferring to receive the ball first in the second half but the Chiefs scored in three plays and never trailed.

Although Tyreek Hill left the game hurt (more on that later), WR Sammy Watkins had 3 TD receptions and played his best game as a K.C. Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes was 25 of 33 for 378 passing yards and 3 TDs with no interceptions. The other highlight of thee game was LeSean McCoy’s running and receiving as he had 10 carries for 81 yards and 1 reception for 12 but everytime he touched the ball he was nothing less than centilating. What a signing!

Some may think this game was a close one, after all, they only won by two TDs but the Chiefs were up 37-to-13 in the 4th quarter. Are there issues the team needs to work on? Sure, but I also believe the Chiefs served notice to the rest of the NFL: were here and everyone else has to go through us.

The downside? The Defense gave me Deja vu all over again allowing 428 total yards while making first time QB Gardner Minshew look like Dan Fouts… the player, not the announcer. Fouts, was calling this game and was not as tough on the Chiefs as he’s been in the past.

Minshew completed his first 13 passes breaking an NFL record for first time rookie QBs throwing and completing consecutive passes in their first game.

While Minshew’s feat sounds impressive against the Chiefs Defense, they began the game with an initial 3-and-out and knocked Jags starting QB, Nick Foles, out of the contest early. While Foles broke his clavicle, Tyreek Hill sprained his clavicle (popping it out of joint) and was also knocked out of this contest early but will only miss weeks, instead of months like Foles. An explanation of Hill’s injury follows:

This game was hotly contested not only was it hot on the field but tempers over flowed many times and Jags LB, Myles Jack, was thrown out of the game but didn’t want to go:

With the Chiefs leading 37-to-19 with 5:25 left in the game, Tanoh Kpassagnon tipped a Gardner Minshew pass and Frank Clark had an interception. That set up the Chiefs last score, a Harrison Butker Field Goal.

The problem is… no one in K.C. has seen that play because there were technical difficulties beginning at 7:32 and the networks moved to other games while those difficulties were being worked on. The problem got worse as the remainder of the game was lost and when I went to my NFL Game Pass account, they show no footage there either.

The bottom line is, he Chiefs won 40-to-26 and it wasn’t that close by my accounts and that is certainly why the Jags became very chippy throughout the contest. Andy Reid said afterwards that the Jags had played dirty, and he’s not wrong at all. Yes, the defense is still a work in progress but you can see the beginnings of a very strong group. The Chiefs won the Time of possession battle 31:15 v 28:45 so no one can argue that the offense is keeping the D on the field too long. K.C. also only had 5 penalties compared to the Jags 10 and 5 is big progress over last seasons dismal league leading totals when K.C. averaged 9.9 penalties per game. 1-and-0 is so much better than 0-and-1.

What’s your take on this game?
