The Kansas City Chiefs remain busy bringing in more WR talent, or should I say, bringing back WR talent because both Marcus Kemp and Chris Conley are players who’ve been on the team before and are big wideouts. On the other hand, should we expect anything more or less from GM Brett Veach? More on Transactions later.
The Thursday Night Football game was an abomination of the sport. The Colts beat the Broncos 12-to-9 in OT but… Peter King on Pro Football Talk (PFT) called the game a: “Steaming Pile of Horse Crap” and I would 100% agree. Now, many of you know that I don’t like cursing on our site, but my own mother used to use the word “crap” instead of… well, you know… the “s-h” word.
.
I would only add… how in the H-E-Double-Hockey-Sticks did the Chiefs lose a game to the Indianapolis Colts??? Yes, Russell Wilson was bad… very bad, but Matt Ryan was equally inept and he had 2 INTs and 2 Fumbles. By the way, the Broncos are now 2-and-3 so the Colts did do K.C. a favor in beating the Donkeys.
Back to how did the Chiefs lose to these Colts? Well, the K.C. Special Teams wasn’t special at all, the offense was 3-for-10 on 3rd downs, Clyde Edwards-Helaire had zero (0) yards rushing, and DL Chris Jones shot his mouth off at just the wrong time… among many other misdeeds by K.C..
Still, Amazon Prime must be throwing up that steaming pile of you know what after signing an eleven year multi-billion dollar deal with the NFL for TNF. No, not cool, not cool at all… it’s “cheugy“… in the word(s) of Gen X.
.
This may be a bit too much… but it’s out there…
.
Perhaps Jim Rome said it best:
.
It looks like Trey Smith might be playing vs the Raiders??
We’ll know more, when we know more!
.
The Chiefs Offense has made the transition to an offense that can succeed without Tyreek Hill. Even Hill has completed his old team this week:
.
While the “evolution” of the Chiefs offense is no where near completed, Jason Reid for Andscape.com wrote a piece called, “Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs are evolving … a scary thing for the NFL” in which he says:
.
“Mahomes has reinvented his game before our eyes, morphing — out of necessity — from a quick-strike superstar to one of the NFL’s truly patient performers. And, most importantly, the Chiefs have remained among the league’s elite teams while Mahomes, coach Andy Reid and offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy developed a new formula.”
.
GM Brett Veach has been busy bringing in more WR talent, bringing back both Marcus Kemp and Chris Conley, players who’ve been on the team before. Conley was with drafted by K.C. but hasn’t been on the team since 2018. Kemp was a UDFA signing with K.C. in 2017 and has been on and off the roster since then having stints with both the Dolphins and the Giants. He’s known for his Special Teams play with Dave Toub so it’s been speculated that he may be brought up to the active roster soon.
.
Also, WR/RB Jerrion Ealy was suspended by the league for 6 games, for a violation of the league’s policy on performance-enhancing substances.
.
Free Agent WR Odell Beckham Jr. has said he’d play for the Chiefs. Now, if they can work out a deal.
.
Sportrac.com says the Chiefs are currently in the hole with regards to their overall cap monies available: $-429,652. I have no doubt that if GM Brett Veach wanted to create more cap space for a player like OBJ, he could do it. However, I don’t think they should go that way — the evolution mentioned above should preclude any such a need — and while Veach has just signed WRs like Marcus Kemp and Chris Conley, it would seem to indicate he’s not going to go after OBJ either.
.
Broncos – we all already know the Denver Broncos stunk it up so badly on Thursday night, that fans are turning tail and hiding.
.
Of course, some are saying the real problem in Denver the hiring of manager Nathaniel Hackett.
.
Chargers – the Chargers have been hit by the injury bug, again, and are now considering making their 4th round RB pick, Isaiah Spiller their starter. In an article for BoltBeat.com called, “Could the Chargers give Isaiah Spiller his first chance in Week 5?” Reese Nasser says,
.
“The Chargers have struggled heavily to move the ball on the ground. Through four weeks, they have just 258 rushing yards. This is the lowest in the NFL. Along with this, they are averaging just 2.7 yards per carry, which is also the lowest in the NFL. They have also scored just two rushing touchdowns. Austin Ekeler, who has been among the league’s best running backs in the past, has gotten off to a slow start. The veteran ball carrier has rushed for just 140 yards and two touchdowns this season.”
Austin Ekeler’s average yards per game is 35 YPG. That’s worse than the Chiefs lead RB, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, who averages 52 YPG this year.
.
Raiders – the Oakland/Los Angeles/Oakland/Vegas… Raiders are coming to Arrowhead on Monday evening. New WR, Davante Adams, has averaged 72.5 yards per game this year with his old college buddy, Derek Carr, pitching him the ball. That’s a bit of a come down when he’s been used to averaging more than 93 yards per game (over the past 4 years, in Green Bay).
.
Chiefs – the Chiefs play “big brain football.”
.
AFC West – the AFC West, thought to be the toughest divisions in the NFL before the season began now has a 5-and-8 record, not counting the Chiefs. The division may turn out to be one of the better divisions when all is said and done, but, obviously the addition of Russell Wilson in Denver hasn’t made them any better than they have been for the past 7 years. Plus, the addition of WR Davante Adams hasn’t helped the Raiders much either as their record is 1-and-3, which currently has them in last place in the division.
