Chiefs Headliners: 12-01-23

After playing eleven games in the 2023 Season, the Kansas City Chiefs should know who they are by now. Basically. Lisa Foxx say they ae all about the Trick PLays in here piece yesterday called: “Trick Plays: It’s Who the Chiefs Are.” Whiel I doubt she is suggesting that K.C. is only or all about Trick Plays, there’s plenty still to eb learned about this team. Like… who will the their #1 WR heading into the post-season? Or, is Travis Kelce really in decline now that he’s 34 years old (that’s really old in dog-years… er… football-years)? So, let begin with Mr. Kelce.

The Wall Street Journal has a piece out on Kelce called, “How Travis Kelce Manifested the Best Year of His Life” (which requires a subscription)… and in it they quote him as saying this on how much he is thinking about retirement:

Kelce goes on to say it has become more than just dealing with the bumps and bruises of playing the game:

Ten (10) surgeries? Wow. I had no idea that Travis Kelce has had so many surgeries… not since his rookie year. Of course, Kelce sat out his whole rookie season in 2013, then he started being Mr. Wonderful. Not immediately, but after a couple of years. Here’s a listing of Kelce injuries adapted from, draftsharks.com:

Of course, there’s Travis Kelce’s other life… life away from football. Not only is he doing commercials, and lots of them, but he’s got his well known podcast (New Heights) with his brother Jason every Wednesday as well as his ongoing relationship with rock goddess, Taylor Swift.

Would I predict that Travis Kelce will retire after this season? It’s a real possibility so Kingdom fans should get ready for that transition. However, I think Kelce gives us one more season of his greatness. Do I have any inside information? Not really… just my own intuition.

I don’t know if you’ve seen Andy Reid in his newest commercial, but here it is:

Andy Reid has done a number of commercials now and it’s Patrick Mahomes who got him the gig. Here’s one of my favorites when he was drawing mustashes on players on the airplane:

Reid was asked abiut his commercials in a media event and here’s what he had to say about his acting ability:

I’ve always been concerned about the time away from the game that players take and whether of not it infringes on their ability to perform during the games. After seeing Reid in some of these advertisements, I’m not as concerned anymore.

Many Kingdom fans were ready to move on from Harrison Butker after his performance(s) in the last two seasons. Now, it’s a completely different story.

It’s hard to argue with perfection. Enough said.

Brett Favre is long gone now… and so is Aaron Rodgers… who is in New York, but sitting on the IR list for the Jets. He says he will come back this season, but I have my doubts. Serious doubts. After all, Rodgers suffered an Achilles injury and those usually take MORE THAN a year to come back from. Onward to Jordan Love.

In the last month, Love had averaged a Rating of 105.3 and appears to have figured out how to play the pro game. That’s not good news for any team facing him and since K.C. travels to Lambeau Field this weekend, that news couldn’t come at a worse time.

Although the Chiefs are moving forward without WR Mecole Hardman, they are expecting MLB Nick Bolton to return. Bolton may not be needed as much as a top notch WR is needed but the Packers don’t really have anyone significant who will be OUT. Here’s their list of Questionable players (from lombardiave.com):
