There’s no getting around it, the Kansas City Chiefs have become the Every Team of the NFL. What is meant by that? Well, the Chiefs have employed an approach which is willing to sign every other teams 1st round picks, or their star player from yesteryear. That makes cheering for the Chiefs a way of cheering for nearly every team in the NFL.

.
That’s 18 players on the 53 man roster who currently started out elsewhere, and 12 players on the Practice Squad who began on foreign soil. The 7 teams not represented on the Chiefs roster are: the Bills, the Jets, the Titans, the Broncos, the Cowboys, the Lions, and the Cards. Although, many players have played for these teams even though they didn’t start out there. Like… RB Melvin Gordon just finished playing for the Broncos, so I guess we can count them on our list as well.
If you’re a fan of the NFL and you’re not sure who you’re cheering for, I don’t blame you one bit. However, most fans in most big cities across the great country of ours associates mostly with the team colors. Red and Gold = Rah Rah, sis-boom-bah.

Brandon Williams – I’ve been waiting a long time for a great DL signing like this one. Yes, BWill is 33 years old, but he’s still a beast.
.
That was just 6 days ago (now 7), so don’t go thinking that’s an older vid. His signing has a lot of other people excited as well:

Plus, some people are comparing the signing of Brandon Williams to the mid-season signing of Terrell Suggs — both ex-Ravens — three years ago when K.C. went all the way and won the big on:

.
One of the larger issues being questioned is: who will be demoted when Brandon Williams moves his way up to the 53 man squad? Good question. Any ideas? I also think it’s important to ask: does the Brandon Williams signing mean Danny Shelton is supposed to wait in line behind him?
Williams was a 3rd round pick of the Baltimore Ravens in 2013, and made the Pro Bowl in 2018. At 6-foot-1 and weighing in a 336 lbs., Williams is heavier and taller than Khalen Saunders and should give the DL Coach Joe Cullen another interior lineman who can bat passes down at the LoS with more regularity than Saunders can. The idea of playing him next to All Pro Chris Jones is a thrill pill without any Advil.
Let’s not forget that Brandon Williams once went to Missouri Southern State University in Joplin MO, so it’s a bit of a Homecoming parade for him and anyone who is a Lion’s fan.

Of course, the Brandon Williams signing wasn’t the only Chiefs Transaction this week. Not nearly. The day before, GM Brett Veach signed RB Melvin Gordon. Gordon is 29 years old and was drafted by the Chargers in 2015 in the first round, 15th overall. He’s rushed for 6,462 yards, 55 TDs with 309 receptions going for 2,467 yards.
On Wednesday, HC Andy Reid said of Gordon:
.
“We will see where this things go…he sure is one heck of a player, one thing we do know is we know him, he was with the Chargers and Denver so we know the type of player he is.”
.
Tom Peliserro sees Gordon as another weapon for Mahomes:

I was never a fan of Austin Reiter so when the Chiefs let him go this week, I was glad they finally came to their senses. He was the Center when the Chiefs lost the Super Bowl to the Bucs following the 2020 season. He then left to play for the Saints and the Dolphins. Once they decided to not re-sign him, I was miffed when Veach and Reid decided to bring him back aboard the Chiefs roster. Because Veach and his team are always trying to upgrade the roster, Reiters’ time in K.C. is hopefully, once and for all, at an end.
Now, it’s up to Nick Allegretti to be the back-up Center to Creed Humphrey who has done an outstanding job.
.
Wideout Bryan Edwards was signed on Monday as well. Edwards was a 3rd round pick of the Las Vegas Raiders in the 2020 NFL Draft, the 81st pick overall. At South Carolina, Edwards had 3,045 yards receiving on 234 receptions, with a 13.0 YPC average and 22 total TDs. You can see why the Raiders liked him enough to spend a 3rd round pick on him. At 6-foot-1, and 215 lbs. Edwards is an imposing wideout to cover.

.
Two other players whose contracts were terminated on Monday this week are RB Wayne Gallman and DE Azur Kamara. It’s possible that Veach did the math and saw that Brandon Williams is a better risk than Azur Kamara and Melvin Gordon is a better risk than Wayne Gallman. What may be closer to the truth is, Veach and his crew liked each of these players — BWill and MGordon — when they came out of college, more than the ones he cut ties with.
.
Closing
Only three players showed up on Wednesday’s Injury Report.
.
With Jerick McKinnon’s appearance on the Wed. Injury Report, I’ll speculate that the signing of Melvin Gordon is a possible replacement piece for him. Sure, Reid fully intends on developing Isiah Pacheco, but Gordon would immediately be the Chiefs best blocking back in the RB Room, so don’t discount that aspect of Gordon’s possible utilization. I feel like the Chiefs have been trying to replace Kareem Hunt ever since they parted ways and they may see Gordon as that player… at least for the time being. After all, Gordon is a year younger than McKinnon and McKinnon is 5-foot-9 and 205 lbs. while Gordon is 6-foot-1 and weighs in at 215 lbs..
