Chiefs Hire Steve Spagnuolo As DC

Well, that didn’t take long at all. One old crony out. One old crony in. Steve Spagnuolo appears to be the Kansas City Chiefs new Defensive Coordinator:

Spagnuolo worked under Andy Reid in Philadelphia from 1999 through 2006. First as a Defensive Assistant, then as a Defensive Backs coach, and also as the Linebackers coach. Spag last worked as the New York Giants Interim HC in 2017. Steve Spagnuolo has had an up and down career performance wise as a coach.

To 4-3 Or Not To 4-3, That Is The Question

One very obvious issue that the hiring of Steve Spagnuolo brings to the Chiefs defense is, will he convert the team to the 4-3 defense which is what he’s been used to running on his teams? One report is that Spagnuolo will run the 3-4 but bring more 4-3 sets than Sutton did. In any event, his defense is supposed to be a more aggressive D and I’m in favor of that.

What do you think? Are you glad Andy Reid has gone with a known face, someone he’s had experience with? That does mean the transition will be much easier and quicker. Or, would you have preferred that Reid have gone with a young gun, or someone that has had no previous ties to the team?
