Chiefs Host Jaguars, Week 10: OPEN THREAD

Laddie Morse

I know, the first thing that comes to your head is: TRAP GAME? However, this week, I seriously doubt it. Yes, that’s what I said last week, but this week is different. Why? Let’s take a look at the Jacksonville Jaguars schedule so far this year:

.

From WinnersandWhiners.com:

.

“The Jacksonville Jaguars started 2-1,

before losing five straight games.”

.

Five (5) straight losses including losses to Houston, Indianapolis, and Denver, that’s pretty pitiful, especially when you add the Commanders into that column. How does Indy score zero points on the Jags one week, then beat the Chiefs the next. That Indy loss still stings. In case you’re wondering… the stinging stops today.

.

ESPN’s Mike DiRocco has this to say about today’s game:

.

“Patrick Mahomes will top 350 yards passing. The Jaguars are rotating rookie Montaric Brown and veteran Tre Herndon at the corner spot opposite Tyson Campbell, so expect the Chiefs to target that spot often Sunday. This is the same defense that gave up 146 yards and two TDs receiving to Davante Adams in the first half last week, and while Tyreek Hill is gone, the Chiefs are still explosive offensively (JuJu Smith-Schuster has 17 catches the past two games and Travis Kelce is sixth in the NFL with 57 catches).”

.

ESPN’s Eric Moody predicts: Chiefs 31, Jags 21.

ESPN’s Seth Walder predicts: Chiefs 24, Jags 21.

ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI) says the Chiefs should win by an average of 12.0 points.

.

ChiefsWire lists the following “Stats and Trends” about this game, and more:

.

The Jags have the NFL’s 22nd-ranked pass defense.

The Jags have the NFL’s 7th-ranked defense against the run.

The Chiefs have been a top-five unit (Offensively).

The Chiefs are ranked 23rd-ranked in rushing yards (103.5 per game).

The Chiefs rank 3rd-best in the NFL with 6.4 yards per play.

.

Pro Football Talk (NBC Rumors) says this about the game today:

.

Michael David Smith: “The Jaguars have a knack for keeping games close, and I think they’ll do it again before falling short in Kansas City.” Chiefs 24, Jags 21

Mike Florio: “After a sluggish showing against the Titans, the Chiefs will be ready to deliver an easy knockout to an overmatched opponent.” Chiefs 35, Jags 17

.

Broadcast Team

The Kansas City Star has the information we need on the two who will be calling this game on KSHB, Channel 41, in Kansas City:

.

“The top CBS Sports broadcast team of Jim Nantz and Tony Romo will call their fourth Chiefs game on Sunday when Kansas City plays the Jacksonville Jaguars at Arrowhead Stadium. The duo previously worked Chiefs games in Week 1 (at Arizona), Week 3 (at Indianapolis) and Week 6 (against the Bills). They’ve seen both Chiefs losses this season.”

.

Referees for This Game

ChiefsWire says:

.

“Fourth-year NFL referee Brad Rogers and his crew will be the officials for the Kansas City Chiefs’ Week 10 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars according to Football Zebras.”

They also add:

“The last game that Rogers officiated for Kansas City was Week 18 against the Denver Broncos in the 2021 NFL season. He’s actually only ever officiated games between the Chiefs and Broncos during his tenure as a referee, which means that K.C. is undefeated when he officiates their games.”

.

Game Time Weather

It’s the beginning of cold weather games for the Chiefs at Home. Luckily, we have a QB who is good in all weather environs.

.

.

Running Backs Department

I’m hoping that this is the game that Ronald Jones will get a chance to show what he can do.

.

.

With Jerick McKinnon questionable for this game, if he does sit out, RoJo should/could get a chance.

.

Injury Reports

.

QB Josh Allen

Many of us Chiefs fans are keeping an eye on the developments of Josh Allen. While they have a tough game this week (today) at Home vs the Minnesota Vikings, Allen has been reported to have a UCL tear or injury. Allen is believed to be suffering from a sprained elbow. If he has a minor sprain, no biggie, right? However, if he has a tear of any kind going on inside his throwing elbow, in the event that he injures it further, he could be out a long time. If the Bills lose to the Vikings, and the Chiefs beat the Jags, the Chiefs would take over the number one spot in the playoff race. If that stands up the rest of the 2022 season, the Chiefs would earn a first round Bye and by beating their first playoffs opponent, would get to host another AFC Championship game. That’s why so many of us have an eye out for the health and welfare and elbow of one Josh Allen. After all, he represents 81% of their offense, and that’s the most in the NFL.

Prediction Time

Does anyone recall back in the preseason when Chiefs new Safety Justin Reid went on GMFB — Good Morning Football — and predicted:

.

“The Chiefs offense is going to do what we always do. We’re going to come out, we’re going to put up 100 points.” — “We have the greatest football quarterback in the game.”

.

Well… this is that game. While K.C. won’t be scoring 100 points… they’ll make it half the way there, just before Andy Reid calls off the dogs.

Chiefs 52, Jags 14.
