Chiefs Kelce and the Taylor Swift Effect

“Hey Mikey, he likes it!” is perhaps one of the best TV Commercials of all time. With the Kansas City Chiefs having some TV success it’s only natural to think about commercial success as well., and… there’s plenty to be found. While many a Chiefs fan think about their team in personal terms, the team and the league are focused on finding more ways to increase their profits from the games (the Chiefs are currently ranked 23rd in the NFL in total value at: $4.3 Billion and the Cowboys are #1 at $9 Billion).

That means, we, the Chiefs fans, are the beguiled in this scenario… which is the one that is closest to reality these days. Lamar Hunt may have founded the AFL and the Dallas Texans — who eventually became “The Chiefs” — as a way of expanding his love of sports into his business life, but the team and league, are a business… as we’ve been reminded many a time.

Now, we live with the facts of life as they are outlined by the Chiefs star players, namely, Patrick Mahomes. Now, that financial world is also greatly improved by the Chiefs star Tight End, Travis Kelce, who is dating the biggest current female pop icon on the planet: Taylor Swift… especially when she attends a game at Arrowhead Stadium, based on an invitation, from Mr. Kelce of course. I won’t be shocked at all if Taylor Swift is asked to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime Show in the close coming years.

I get it, I really do… but… Joe Pompliano has spelled out exactly how much having Taylor Swift in house at a Chiefs game against the Bears has meant to Kelce personally with the “Swifties” (aka; Taylor Swift’s adoring fans) following close behind:

+400% increase in merchandise sale? Oh my Goodness… that’s a lot of $$$Goodness$$$ that the league has just benefitted from. Will any of that money line the pockets of Kelce or Swift? I doubt it, but the NFL is thrilled and I’m 100% sure of that. Makes you wonder just how much the Chiefs-Bears game was watched by fans of the NFL?

Then again, that makes me wonder what the all time greatest regular season NFL game was that was watched on TV? The answer comes from last Thanksgiving day:

“The Cowboys’ 28-20 victory over the Giants drew 42 million viewers, according to Fox. That makes it the most-watched regular-season game on any network in history.”

While the Chiefs game versus the Bears only represents 73% of the total of the most watched regular season game on TV ever, the fact that the Cowboys were playing on Thanksgiving Day when all of America was home and wanting something to do, makes the Chiefs-Bears game figures all the more impressive. In a sideline interview with Erin Andrews after the game (0:40).

While many of the Chiefs fans I know don’t consider Taylor Swift-news Chiefs-news or football-news at all… it’s hard to ignore the major effect she’s had on the game and our Kansas City Chiefs this past week. Swift could be seen wearing a red and white jacket (see feature graphic), with team-colors on it, and sat ensconced in a luxury booth next to Kelce’s Mother, Donna Kelce, throughout the game. Here’s what Pat McAfee and his crew had to say about the presence of Taylor Swift at the Chiefs game on Sunday (2:16):

The way the game started should have keyed us into the fact that the Chiefs Kingdom and arrowhead Stadium has just been converted into a Roman Coliseum environment:

Personally, I’m thrilled that the Chiefs would make this play and go up 41-to-nothing. Let’s hope they keep the pedal to the metal in future games.

Breaking Up is Hard To Do

Now I’m also worried about the future of Swift and Kelce. What happens to Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift when, or if, they break up? According to Cosmopoliton, Taylor’s net worth is over $740M, but her Eras Tour could net over One Billion dollars. Kelce’s net worth is somewhere in the neighborhood of $30 Million (0:21).

So, what happens when they break up? As you may know, either from first hand experience or through someone close to you –> when couples split, money is ALWAYS an issue.

Paul McCartney’s divorce from Heather Mills cost him nearly $50 Million and Jeff Bezos divorce cost him more than $160 Billion. From LinkedIn.com comes this:

“The divorce rate among celebrity couples is 67 per cent higher than other couples during the early years of their marriage, finds a new study from the Marriage Foundation.”

That’s 67% HIGHER than other couples!

Whoa! Knowing Travis Kelce and his penchant for impulsive behavior, I would not expect this relationship to last very long. Could I be wrong? I hope I am.
