Chiefs: Learn From the Loss

Laddie Morse

So, the Kansas City Chiefs have suffered their first loss of the season, huh? The question is, will they learn from it. Our David Bell suggests that the Chiefs will rebound with a victory over the Panthers but winning the rest of their games is in doubt. First, let’s take a look at where they are in the Conference standings:

With the Chiefs having seven more games to play, and sporting a 9-and-1 record, they have a one game lead on the Buffalo Bills and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Here are the Top Five Tie Breakers according to the NFL:

We’ll by-pass #1 since that is the first tie breaker. Since we still have no idea which games will be won or lost within the Chiefs division, then #2 is a no go as well. #3 is common games and the Chiefs beat the Ravens by 7 in their opening game and the Steelers just beat the Ravens by 2 in thier only common game so far. The Steelers still play the Bengals twice, the Browns twice and the Ravens once again. K.C. beat Cincinnati by one and have yet to play the Browns and the Steelers. That head-to-head game, Chiefs against the Steelers, looms large as that is the #1 tie-breaker. #4 and #5 are still largely unknowns.

Here are several Chiefs saying they not only need to remember the feeling of losing to the Bills but also, to learn from it:

There’s been some questions about the play of QB Patrick Mahomes. Some feel he hasn’t played up to his own standards. Mahomes apparently feels it’s not as important how you play during the regular season but once the playoffs role around, you have to flip a switch and play better:

“The undefeated thing was cool, but it was not our

ultimate goal, so we will keep building towards that.”

There are some who think this game shows that the Chiefs opponent, QB Josh Allen, is now the best QB in the game:

Not everyone agrees with Damien Woody:

While the debate may rage on about who is better, Patrick Mahomes or Josh Allen… the question Chiefs fans are asking is: why is Patrick Mahomes playing at such a poor rate? Mahomes 90.3 rating is the lowest of his career for the year. Also…

Some believe that the addition of RB Isiah Pacheco can re-inspire the Chiefs, to re-establish their winning ways.

While some think the addition of RB Isiah Pacheco will help K.C. a lot, I’m not one of those fans. Pop will need a whole offseason to get back to where he was at and having a broken leg is not ideal for him to return from and be 101% effective. Many fans have stated that they will be Chiefs fans no matter what happens. That shows the greatness of the fan base. However, to complete their attempt at a “three-peat” they’ll need more than just belief in them. They will need to “learn” from their failures and that’s as much in importance as “believing” in them. When the Chiefs face the Bills again in the playoffs, it will matter more… “how” they play… than “where” they play. So, if K.C. somehow does lose out on the #1 seed, they will have to go on the road to, get to, and then win, another Super Bowl trophy.

Cincy lost to the Charger last night, 34-to-27, to go 4-and-7 on the season.

What do you think?
