Chiefs Mahomes: Dad Bod or Winning Build

Laddie Morse

I have a couple of admissions to make. First of all, I never wanted to get a beer belly when I was growing up (so don’t ask me why I have one now, I don’t even drink beer). I thought that was the epitome of living life as an unhealthy person. Secondly, when the 2017 NFL Draft was taking place, I was hoping the Kansas City Chiefs would take DeShaun Watson instead of Patrick Mahomes. Boy oh boy, did I ever goof that one up.

Mahomes has not only turned into a MVP multiple times, but a Super Bowl MVP multiple times, so the rings that he’s won are legitimate representations of his value in this league. As a long time Chiefs fan, I can yell loudly, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah!

Is there really a debate as to Patrick Mahomes Dad-Bod and whether or not he should have abs on abs instead? This is from Thursday:

As long as Mahomes keeps winning championships, I’m sure he’ll get messages like this one (see below), no matter what his bod looks like:

I’m sure many of you recall what Tom Brady looked like at the combine. Patrick Mahomes threw the ball a lot on his combine day and again on his Pro Day at Texas Tech, where he went to college. Here’s Mahomes at his Combine Workout (1:35):

Here’s Mike Mayock — before being hired as the Raiders GM — narrating Mahomes Pro Day passing program (1:47):

Mahomes has gotten a lot of criticism for his “Dad-Bod”… which is what it’s being called these days:

“Severely out of shape”??? Give me a break! Some fans of other teams have gone over board with this issue. They won’t let go of the idea that Patrick Mahomes will never have abs like Chris Hemsworth, Nick Jonas, or Zack Efron.

Would you rather have Russell Wilson’s abs — which aren’t that stupendous — or Patrick Mahomes rings and trophies… with the promise of more to come? Besides, I think Patrick Mahomes’ wife Brittany is head and shoulders more beautiful than Russell Wilson’s wife Ciara (pictured at right):

There are plenty of Kingdom fans who don’t care one iota about the women in the lives of the Chiefs players. I find, that’s like saying you don’t care one iota about the women in your own life. In fact, Patrick Mahomes is taking credit for introducing Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce.

While we may want to separate out the bod from the person, there’s actually no way to do that. Besides, I can see a difference between the 2018 Patrick Mahomes and he 2024 Patrick Mahomes. Here’s a side by side pic of Mahomes in 2018 and 2024:

Both of these pics were screen caps from a Chiefs media event. If you focus strictly on the neck area and his bi-ceps, it appears that the 2024 Mahomes has picked up some muscle mass. I’d hope so. However he still can’t grow a beard. We are privy to his offseason workout vids like this, on Twitter (1:04):

I say –> who cares if Patrick Mahomes has a Dad-Bod or not! If you are an NFL fan who is complaining about Mahomes body, you are likely a sour grapes 49ers fan or a fan of one of the teams the Chiefs whipped in the most recent playoffs. Either way… I don’t give a dang!
