Chiefs Make Patriots Fans Cry at Their Tea Party – those poor, mistreated fans of the New England Patriots, having to sit in the stands of Gillette Stadium and watch a much superior team defeat the reigning World Champions. I’ve been hearing and reading about the “missed call” by the refs on the N’Keal Harry non-touchdown, but what no one seems to want to discuss, is the missed call earlier in that very same play. Tyrann Mathieu could have, should have, and would have, tackled Harry for at most, a one yard gain, if not for the completely egregious block in the back by none other than Julian Edelman.

The same inept line judge was staring straight down the line of scrimmage, apparently with his eyes closed, throughout the entire play. The Patriot fans are correct in that it should not have been a 1st and goal from the 3 yard line… it actually should have been a 1st and 20 from the 25 yard line, and we all know what would have happened then.

 

On 1st down and 20, Brady would have dropped back to pass and gotten sacked for a 6 yard loss. On 2nd down, the Pats would have attempted a running play for a gain of 1 yard and on 3rd down Brady would have been sacked once more, forcing the Patriots to attempt a long field goal, that Folk would undoubtably miss. Therefore, the refs missing this call allowed the Patriots to cut the lead to a one score game. There is no other way to look at that play, the Patriots made out like bandits.

 

Calls Versus Non-calls Even Out

I’m not going to argue the pass interference calls. I thought the first one on Breeland was a bad call. I also thought the one on Fuller was a joke, but Fuller got away with one later, so that evened out.

 

Bad Non-call for the New Face of the NFL

Looking at the penalties in this game, the Chiefs had 10 accepted flags for a total of 136 yards, while New England had only 5 for 25 yards. Now, in all fairness, New England usually has few penalties called against them, but Hightower’s late hit out of bounds on Mahomes that didn’t get flagged was a horrid non-call, even Tony Romo was saying he couldn’t believe that didn’t get flagged.

 

Worser and Worser Calls

One of the worst calls against Kansas City, was late in the game, when Kelce was flagged for offensive pass interference, but the absolute worst call was the 15 yard, blindside block call on center Austin Reiter, who obviously had his head and shoulder in front of the defender.

 

Looking Forward

There are only three games left in the regular season, and at least one playoff game in this seasons future. The next up for the Chiefs will be a home game against the division rival and surging Denver Broncos. Denver’s shiny new QB, Drew Lock, has won his first two starts for the Broncos, but has thrown a pick in each game. Denver has jumped out to an early lead in each of the last two games. The Chiefs offense needs to start fast and build a lead early, while Spags defense needs to pressure Lock early and often. Get Lock trailing and hassled and he’ll fold, as he often did at Mizzou.
