Chiefs Marcus Peters Traded to the L.A. Rams

The Kansas City Chiefs have finally done it. They traded away perhaps the best cornerback in the NFL over the past three years to the Los Angeles Rams.

Although I’ve been a big Marcus Peters fan and supporter, I can understand why the Chiefs believe he is a polarizing figure. While I can live with his being polarizing to fans, apparently, he’s been polarizing in the locker room and that’s not a positive for the team moving forward. Peters, as has been rumored, asked for a trade after the loss to the Titans in the playoffs. I can understand a player feeling that way — wanting to get out — after being beaten again and again in the playoffs and not being able to advance and if the player was someone who had no off field, or on-field for that matter, problems, then I can see the Chiefs wanting to keep him no matter what. However, since Peters has been abrasive and problematic, they have sought to give in to his request for a trade… as long as they could get good value in return.

The K.C. Star’s Sam Mellinger replied to that tweet by saying,

It’s been very clear that new GM Brett Veach has been putting his mark on this team with the moves he’s made to this point. However, with this trade, he’s erasing a bit of the John Dorsey mistakes and righting the ship at the same time… if all turns out well as the result of this trade.

The reality of losing Peters is.. who can create 21 INTs in 3 seasons? That’s a ton of production. No, he’s not interested in tackling and maybe he’s been a detriment to team unity… maybe… but his on-field production will be extremely difficult to replace.

You have to hope that the compensation would mean a player like DE Dan Quinn… but it looks like the Rams have backed off that possibility.

What do you think of this trade?
