Laddie Morse
The time has come for all good men to come to the aid of their… teammates. That’s what we will finally get to see in the coming weeks now that DL Charles Omenihu has been cleared following a six week suspension for a violation of the personal conduct policy (he was arrested in January of this year due to an allegation of misdemeanor domestic violence). Here’s Charles Omenihu when he played for the Longhorns in the Big 12 (0:16):
.
.
Boy oh boy, he gets there quickly! Omenihu is a lean and athletic 6-5-5/8 tall, 280 lbs. and grew up in the state of Texas… “The” state for high school football if there ever was such a designation. He went to the University of Texas from 2015-to-2018 and was drafted by the Houston Texans in the 6th round in 2019 and then traded to the San Francisco 49ers in November of 2012. Here’s a vid of him when he was drafted (1:04).
.
.
At UT, he had 16.5 sacks and last year, he had 4.0 sacks for the 49ers on 54% (573) of the snaps. Here’s Charles Omenihu at Chiefs practice. He’s the #90 in the back center, stretching (0:06):

The Reason to Get Excited
Can you imagine a 3rd down rush where the Chiefs are bringing Chris Jones, Charles Omenihu, Mike Danna, George Karlaftis, and maybe Felix Anudike-Uzomah? You should know that is a big wow! Pairing Omenihu with Chris Jones means other teams will have to decide — pre-snap — exactly who they will double-team. If it’s CJ, then Omenihu will likely get a one-on-one and vice versa. With CJ and CO rushing up the middle, GK and Mike Danna and FAU will have a field day on the outside.
In an article written by Pete Sweeney called, “Willie Gay Jr. on Charles Omenihu: ‘He’s ready’ for Chiefs debut” he quotes GM Brett Veach as saying:
.
“[Omenihu] can play a lot base end on early run downs, but I think the thing that really appealed to us was his inside pass rush ability,” explained Veach. “He’s long, he’s athletic, and again, we just feel like pairing him with Chris Jones inside on third downs is something that will be really beneficial for us.”
.
The Kansas City Chiefs 2023 defense ahs already established itself as one of the leagues best this year. Adding Charles Omenihu to the mix means trouble for the rest of the league. During his first two season in the NFL with Houston, he played in 47% and 52% of the snaps yet he had 3 sacks his first season and 4 his next. So, there’s no issue about him not being productive, he’s been productive since he came into the NFL.
Andy Reid said this about Omenihu’s play this weekend against the Chargers:
.
“I’m kind of looking forward to seeing him get in there. I think we kind of ease him back in there and let him get going. See how he does.”
.
In an article for local Fox4, Omenihu said last Friday:
.
“90 is back. Kept trusting. My
faith hasn’t been any stronger.”
.
.
Here’s Charles Omenihu getting a sack for San Francisco against the Rams coming right up the middle just last year (0:09):

Here’s Omenihu taking it to his old team the Texans, the team that drafted him (0:11):

Here’s another sack Omenihu got against his old team, the Houston Texans (0:13):

Here’s Omenihu during his time IN Houston for the Texans (0:26):

What are your hopes for Omenihu? Are you as excited as I am to see him in the mix along our DL?
