Chiefs Meta Research: 53-Man Roster Projection

Laddie Morse

The word “Meta” has gotten a bad name (see Twitter for the young)… what I’m hoping to capture here is the 2nd meaning offered by Merriam-Websters.com: “concerning or providing information about members of its own category” and the web sites I’ll be referring to include:

Plus, of course, this site. I’ll take a fourth wheel approach to naming the players I believe will end up on the Chiefs 53-man roster instead of the player they’ve named. Take a look… Offense first:

Looks like ProFootballNetwork ended up with more than 25. Makes you wonder what they’re thinking is?

AtoZSports.com has Louis Rees-Zammit and Emani Bailey making the 53 man roster and sending C.J. Hanson to the Practice Squad while only keeping 9 OL. I think that’s a mistake and that Deneric Prince deserves his shot. Emani Bailey may be a very good back, but I really don’t know if he can beat out Prince.

Also, you’ll note that Darian Kinnard is in red on the chart and that’s because after helping the Chiefs to their second straight Super Bowl victory, he was swiped off the Practice Squad by the Philadelphia Eagles a week after this year’s Super Bowl LVIII win and he is now on their starting roster (which is a stipulation of plucking someone off of another team’s Practice Squad, that they must go to their 53-man roster). In any event, Kinnard is no longer with K.C. and the Chiefs 5th round pick in the 2022 draft is now with the Eagles.

I have Charles Omenihu in red because I’m planning on carrying him on the 53-man roster until he can come back. Which… looks like it will be a lot sooner than I originally thought. That should please David Bell!

Although ProFootballNetwork has Isaiah Buggs listed on the Chiefs 53-man roster, with his two current chargers against him, I’m expecting Brett Veach to cut him any day now.

ChiefsWIre appears to be missing a player on Defense. Maybe two. However, every time I doubt them, they seem to have an answer.

I thought this one would be a walk-in-the-park easy but ChiefsWire appears to have Ryan Rehkow as the Punter/Holder. Rehkow has already been cut if your keeping up with all the offseason moves. ArrowheadPride and Jared Sapp suggested that Dave Toub made an early decision to honor what Harrison Butker had to say about the “holder” plus this cutting of Rehkow allowed K.C. to sign another DT, Alex Gubner.

What do you think? Have any preferences?
