Chiefs Mock Chalk Talk: Mock 1.0 – by David Bell and Laddie Morse – Today, well start off our Mock Chalk Talk with David and Laddie’s Mock 1.0, a first round prediction for all teams. We’ve purposely waited until the first week (or half week) after Free Agency was done, to see where the Kansas City Chiefs were at with the roster. Of course, we expect more additions prior to the draft in late April and so we’ll offer other mocks when that happens. For now, here’s “David Bell and Laddie Morse’s Mock 1.0.”

Here’s all choices and then we’ll break down each one. First though, you’ll find all QBs in red to help keep track of them, and we’re projecting five will go in round one before K.C. picks:

Urban Meyer gets his QB although I’m no so sure Meyer is in Jacksonville half as long as Lawrence. -Laddie

.

We have Chase ranked as the top WR so he goes to NYJ because in this mock scenario, Sam Darnold stays longer so they can see what they have… if he has some real weapons to help him. -Laddie

.

In this approach, Tua Tagovailoa is given a whole season so Miami can judge what he can really do. DaVonta Smith should help him achieve much more. -Laddie

Here, we think the Falcons are going to see past the time when Matt Ryan will be their starter (hes signed thorugh 2023) and give Wilson a couple of years to mature and get tutoring. It gives them their QB of the future while still making a run with Ryan in house. -Laddie

With Joe Burrow leading the way, he’ll need a great blind side protector for the next ten year and he’ll get that with Slater. Slater is the technician and likely the right choice over Penei Sewell, who is more of a bull. -Laddie

Pitts is the best TE prospects to come out since Travis Kelce. With Philly shopping Zach Ertz, Pitts will not only fill a need but be an instant impact payer, something 2nd year QB, Jalen Hurts will need. -Laddie

The Lions are giving FA WR Breshad Perriman a shot (not too smart really) and Jared Goff will need protecting so they draft Sewell, who may be the best OL in this draft, and consequently the reason new hard nosed HC Dan Campbell will not be able to resist. -Laddie

The Panthers have a solid team in most every spot but, Teddy Bridgewater is their QB. Not that he’s not a capable play caller, but Justin Field may have the upside Bridgewater doesn’t and he’ll be 29 this year. -Laddie

The Broncos have been building around their defense for a decade and that continues here. They love defensive backs but with Patrick Mahomes in K.C., they have no hope of stopping him no matter who they choose. -Laddie

The Cowboys could go DL here, they need lots of help there, but Farley — who could end up being the best DB in this class — is too good to pass up. -Laddie

You cannot “Not” think Waddle is one of the top 2 or 3 WR’s in the 2021 Draft. Over 3 seasons, he amassed over 2,000 yards and 17 Tds making him an immediate direct aerial threat for any team drafting him. Waddle is very quick off the snap, gets immediate separation and is a disciplined route runner. -David

Rousseau has been a disruptive force in his collegiate career. He has top drawer athleticism, speed and versatility– he can play both left and right of the ball and the interior DL to boot. That he is a threat inside on his pass rush from the edge but also fast enough to be a speed threat, with multiple moves he will be a constant terror for OT’s to block in the NFL. The only drawback I see? He opted out of 2020. -David

Darrisaw was one of the first Tackles that I looked at, thought he was underrated by nearly everyone, and some of that remains true. For run blocking, Darrisaw has few peers that exceed his ability. He is athletic and powerful. His skill set for pass blocking is not as developed as it is for the ground game which is why he is not the best fit for KC.

Davis’s progression at the collegiate level was aided by his NFL pedigree and certainly he has excelled as an OG for the Buckeyes. Because the Chiefs needed OL help, I had my eye on him from the start. What I think would have been a great pair of man-moving guards could have been Kelechi Osemele and Davis. Davis presents a mauler with nastiness to the point of contact. Davis is very good within the interior play and zone scheming used by many teams. His weakness is laterally outside the right shoulder with zone blocking, but his feet are good laterally. His power and force really knock opposing defenders of their square inside. -David

What is not to like about sideline-to-sideline speed, powerful tackles and an eye for the ball in the aerial game. Knew the player was not a consideration for the Chiefs, you just had to take peak and he is a top LB with a superb future. Parsons is very explosive off the snap, hits the gaps and is fast to the point of tackle. Versus the aerial game, Parsons is also top notch and you can mission him to blitz and win. When looking at his film, it’s almost as if playing Linebacker was in his genes. – David

I see is power inside with versatile moves outside for a big RB. He is also a threat as a receiver so a great blend of talents to bring to any team. The thing you see about him running the ball is a strong will to get the next yard… or five. He hits the tackler as hard as possible, which gets him consistent wins for yards and broken tackles. I think he would be a HoF RB no matter what method is used for any offensive line and I just really found him to be a great running back. -David

Early on this spring, Laddie and I spoke about all the QB’s in the NFL. I tagged Lance as the next major QB in the NFL. He “has it”. He is a tremendous athlete with a great arm and is a game changer that does things with the ball that most QB’s cannot do. He is a threat to score himself and has amassed stats and bona fides (although, over just one season) that tell me he is going to be the best QB of this draft class, possibly in a similar manner to that of Patrick Mahomes. That is how highly I think of Lance. -David

Mayfield is not my pick in this draft for the first round, but he is a top OT. He didn’t carry through to his Sr. year and that is a drawback for me. Still, he is already an NFL sized young man who has caveats: he has faced many pass rushers and more than succeeded in pass blocking but that is as a Freshman and a Sophomore. Part of the problem for Mayfield was the reaction of the Big 10 and the abbreviated season hurt his opportunity to get collegiate reps. KC’s point of view would be to get him in round 2 and develop him into a monster. -David

Jones led the Crimson time with aplomb and I like him a lot. Some hype both ways surrounds him, but he is deservedly among the top 5 Quarterbacks coming to the NFL in 2021. He’s a leader, doesn’t bow to pressure and his stats prove it (4,500 yards passing, 77.5% passing percentage, 41 TDs with 4 INTs – in 2020). I think in the NFL he will be better than most starters in the game today. He’s more of a pocket passer than a QB who uses his legs a lot but his accuracy is tops and he got it done at Bama.

Everything about Toney screams success to me. If I could be Veach and blessed with the picks without the other needs, I would target Toney. He is quick, fast and I know that Ryan Tracy’s Draft coverage will show him to have superb SAQ, very deft with his feet. You can not coach more speed and much of SAQ is not coachable either. He is going to be a vertical threat, but the drawback is stature (5-11, 189). He is thin and will be tested related to durability. That said, my idea for him is to develop more muscle mass. -David

With HC Frank Reich, re-pairing, and repairing, Qb Carson Wentz, Reich will want to get Wentz a good weapon to work with. -Laddie

The Titans have added Bud Dupree but desperately need Dl help and Kwity Paye is just that perfect fit for HC Mike Vrabel. -Laddie

The Jets went with WR Ja’Marr Chase with the 2nd overall pick and now get the 2nd best RB in this draft, all with the idea of helping out QB Sam Darnold. These two picks should help, a lot. -Laddie

The Steelers are not re-signing OT Alejandro Villanueva, so Teven Jenkins should be the cureall. Well, for the OL, the rest of the team needs help. -Laddie

One of our favorite Left Tackles in this draft ends up in Jacksonville. If the Jags do go QB early, Leatherwood should help protect him for the next ten years. -Laddie

Channel 5 in Cleveland said: “The three biggest needs for the Browns are as follows: defense, defense and, yes, defense.” Adding Edge Rusher (ER), Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah should help with that! -Laddie

.

At 6′ 5″, 252 lbs., Jayson Oweh offers the size that the Ravens typically utilize for their Edge Rushers. Oweh ran the fastest 40, the highest vertical jump and the longest broad jump… of any freshman coming into Penn State. He immediately took over at DE and hasn’t looked back (however, he’s only played in 20 games over three season for Pann St.). He should excell for the Ravens -Laddie

This is the kind of pick only the Saints would make: taking the song of Joe Horn, who not only played for K.C. but went on to fame in New Orleans, especially when he pulled out a cell phone from under the padding around the goal post. NO can use a good CB, and this is their choice. -Laddie

David was saying that the Packers or the Steelers often take the player the Chiefs might covet most and do it right before they pick… and they don;t let us down this time by selecting LB Zaven Collins. Collins is a small school prospect out of Tulsa but he’s an athletic freak and could end up as one of the best LBs in the NFL. -Laddie

Teh Bills re-signed DT Vernon Butler this week but they could use help off the edge. Phillips first went to UCLA for two year where he was a 5-star recruit but when he transferred to Miami he began to shine. He can be an impact player for the Bills, but like so many prospects in this draft class, there’s not a huge amount of tape on them, and we know Reid loves guys with multiple years of shining experience. Good thing he;s going to Buffalo. -Laddie

I’ve covered other tackles that I believe to be more skilled and better draft picks but I do believe in Cosmi. I would prefer to draft him in round two… from a K.C. point of view. -David

If the first round falls this way, Cosmi may be the best choice K.C. has at a LT. I don’t see him as an immediate starter and others may like him more than I do, but if it comes down to Cosmi or someone at another position, that prospect better be head and shoulders better for Veach not to go after an OT at this point in the draft. -Laddie

I like Levi a bunch for the 4-3 and have been mocking him here due to the Chiefs focus on the OL being top priority. I see him becoming an impact player on the interior defensive front. Levi is quick, and provides interior pass rush prominence. Due to his quickness and ability to shed and slip blocks he is going to be producer and impact player as a pass rusher. He is tough, and plays with mean hands, and uses multiple techniques. I view him as a round 2 pick, but I like what he does. -David

Here’s another Mock David Bell sent me yesterday. The reason for including it is, it shows a Trade UP possibility and not many mocks you see will show that. David traded the Chiefs 1st round pick this year, the Chiefs first round pick next year, plus a 5th rounder this year… to Miami for their 18th pick in this year’s draft to get: LT Christian Darrisaw.

Darrisaw is one of the top Tackles in this draft and worthy of trading up that far for. If Brett Veach does do that, I’d be one happy camper.
