Chiefs: Newbies Taking Over

Laddie Morse

There are seasons where the newest players in town simply fit in and don’t make much noise. That’s not this season. The Kansas City Chiefs may be attempting to three-peat but that isn’t about to happen without the contributions of the newest players.

Hollywood Brown will likely be that 1,000+ yards receiver the team has been missing since one Mr. Hill took his talents to Miami. Seems to me that Patrick Mahomes can make this thrown (seen below) with his eyes closed. Please don’t suggest that to him or else he might start trying those kinds of plays in practice…

Here’s Hollywood Browns Highlights. I see a lot of plays that look like plys Andy Reid would call. You may want to Mute, or not (3:30).

Jared Wiley is tight end who was taken in the 4th round of the 2024 NFL draft, a rookie. He was taken with the 131st pick and stands 6-foot-6 and goes 249 pounds. Others have suggested he’s taller, as tall as nearly 6-foot-8. I think that Chiefs stud LB Nick Bolton says it best:

Some like to compare WIley to Travis Kelce:

We can also take Travis Kelce at his word when talking about Jared Wiley:

Matt Araiza is a punter and while some of you may be thinking — he’s just a punter, how could he be someone who is taking over? — I understand your reticence but believe me, you will be convinced by mid-season at least, if not before. Take a look at one of his punts, and yes, he had an 86-yard punt in college (0:17):

Yes, Matt Araiza has been called the “Punt God” an moniker he is uncomfortable with.

Araiza has been good in practice too and continues to hit big punts.

Hicks is a rookie Safety from Washington State (the same college as CB Jaylen Watson) and played in 26 games for the Cougars. Hicks has gotten the attention of Chiefs DC Steve Spagnuolo. They say that when you get his attention, it’s a big plus:

Once Hick learns the defensive playbook… watch out!

Are there other newbies you think will take over this year?
