Chiefs: Pre-Draft Preparations

The following information is not intended to be a mock draft or even predictions, but an attempt to provide data to compare prospects at certain positions, and provide a comparison of certain draft prospect ranking sites. The lack of pro days has eliminated the completeness of data for RS and SPARQ scores, so prospect rankings is the only way to statistically measure players. Yuk!

For reference purposes the legend is as follows:

• RD = NFL Rough Draft
• HR = The Huddle Report
• PFN = Pro Football Network
• TDN = The Draft Network
• CBS = CBS Sports

Tier 1 Rankers

Oddly, I supply two averages for prospect rankings. The first is only for Rough Draft and Huddle Report, two of the most accurate draft predictors over the past 5 years. Both sites contain great data for use on draft weekend. To be fair a 3^rd site, Draft Board Guru only ranks the Top 100, but is a great and accurate site (and#51-#100 will not be available until April 21).

Tier 2 Rankers

The second average is comprised of the other three ranking services – PFN, TDN and CBS. These are widely utilized, but not recognized for their ranking prowess. It is quite amazing how widespread a player’s ranking can be between just these 5!

I wish I could say that Rough Draft and Huddle Report are consistent, but even they can vary widely in certain cases. But I must say they vary less than the other 3.

Breakdown

The positional breakdowns that seem to most concern Chiefs Kingdom are LB, CB, S , IOL while DL, WR, TE, RB were ignored, because those positions are of secondary concern, and QB, P, K are of no concern.

Linebackers

Grab one at #32 or wait!

Cornerbacks

CBs abound through the first 4 rounds, but rankings vary widely. CB du jour no doubt?

Safety

This may seem strange to add Safety, but several can also be corners, play in the box and slot (i.e. Mathieu and Sorenson). Sorenson’s contract expires after 2020, Mathieu and Watts expire after 2021. Never too early to find replacements. Last year Chiefs carried 5 safeties and 5 corners.

Safeties abound as well. Delpit and McKinney slipping to the end of round 1?

Interior Offensive Line

Personally, I do not feel IOL is a pressing need in 2020, however this runs in total contradiction to the national media and many in Chiefs Kingdom. There are plenty but no true first rounders.

Veach stated on Thursday April 16 this draft was deep in offensive lineman. This snapshot includes a few later round tackles. 3^rd round looks hot!

The absolute best table reflecting slotting by position is found at www.draftboardguru.com under the tabs “Value Board – Offense” and “Value Board – Defense”. These tables do not apply a specific ranking to a player, but sorts positions by round within a position.
