Chiefs Preseason: Little or Nothing at All – The National Football league has already announced that the 2020 Preseason schedule has been cut down to two games: the second and third games. Which means the Chiefs first opponents this preseason would be: the Arizona Cardinals and the Dallas Cowboys, both AWAY games. However, the league also said one of those game will be a HOME game.
While the NFL Player’s Association (NFLPA) is arguing that a change in the number of games is altering the “working conditions” I would say, it’s making those working conditions better. As we get closer to the time that NFL Training camps are to begin, the league is also considering: games without fans. There’s been a company that’s offering the chance for season ticket holders to have a cardboard cutout with their image printed on it set in their seat during home games. Empty stadium? What’s next? Piped in noise?
When things get that far developed, it’s clear that actual games being played, are in danger of not being played. The question then becomes: how many games?
Now, the idea of no preseason games being played at all, appears to be a possibility. If a player or coach contracts the Covid-19 during Training camp, it could change everything. Especially if that becomes multiple players or coaches. Don’t think it can’t happen either. The Royals skipper, Mike Matheny, got it and although he’s okay now, the possible spread of that virus would make playing football a huge question mark. Now, it’s reported that Royals catcher Salvador Perez has the Covid-19 too:
That’s also the reason why remaining in St. Joe for Training Camp was probably a better idea. It offers a kind of bubble effect that practicing at Arrowhead can not with players going home at night… or to the store… and who knows where else.
Once they’ve cut the number of preseason games in half… it becomes a lot easier to cut the rest of the preseason. Then, the dominos begin to fall and it also becomes easier to cut part of the season.
Unless the Covid-19 pandemic is stopped in its tracks, the most recent trends continue to threaten the NFL season. “Be prepared,” that’s what my Scoutmaster used to say.
