When you have a .727 winning percentage this season and a coach with the most wins on two organizations… you have reasons to brag. Of course, when you have the best defense, the quarterback and the best tight end in the business… maybe ever… you have good reasons to gloat as well. Let’s take a look at some Chiefs comments… some of which may tilt on the side of braggadocio.
.
Here’s Steve Spagnuolo on rookie DE, FAU:
.
.
After falling behind 0-to-14 to the Las Vegas Raiders in the first quarter last week Spags meet with the defense on the sidelines and said:
.
“We got to grind our way back, and… to the guys’ credit, thought they did that. We got back, mentally, we had a couple of things that should have been handled a certain way and weren’t, and we had done it in practice. It wasn’t something that was new to them. So they shook it off, got the cobwebs out, and we got it right.”
.
When you have a player on your roster who was drafted out of Wisconsin — last year — you can expect him to have some ties to the area. In an article for ArrowheadPride, Ashley-Justice wrote a piece called: “Leo Chenal eager to play his childhood team on Sunday” in which Leo Chenal was quoted as saying:
.
“It’s definitely a homecoming game — and we’re all cheese heads. Once you get into the heart of Wisconsin, everybody’s a Packers fan and I definitely grew up a cheese head. We kind of treated it [the games] as like a family time [cheering for the Packers], where we sit around a big TV, my whole family. We were always watching the Packers, supporting them.”
.
One of our chief writers, David Bell, has a close family member who is a Packers fan so Sunday evening will be tough for him. Go David! When I lived and taught in the Dallas area I often went to The Point After North Sports Bar and Grill to watch games with fellow Chiefs Fans and I recall there always being two fan bases that outshined all others and those were: The Steelers and The Packers.
.
You may recall this old game with the Green Bay Packers 12 years ago when Romeo Crennel was the interim Head Coach and Kyle Orton was the temporary QB. Here’s an article I wrote 12 years ago for ArrowheadAddict.com called, “Honey, I Shrunk the Packers” which is mostly about a run-in I had with a Packers fan at The Point After North. Fun read. Take a peak. BTW, the Packers were coming off of their only Super Bowl (XLV) win under Aaron Rodgers and had a perfect record to that point, but the Chiefs — and Kyle Orton — spoiled that with a 19-to-14 victory in Arrowhead.
.
.
Justin Watson had a penalty called on him during the game. The Raiders #41, LB Robert Spillane, knocked Watson on his keaster when he was coming off the line, right at the goal line, and then Watson got back up and caught a TD pass in space. After that, then he turned around and went back up to confront, and jaw at, Spillane. So, that drew a Penalty Flag! Fortunately, the penalty, which was assessed on the following kickoff, didn’t result in any field position loss or scoring by Vegas so… alls well that ends well. Watson said he called his mom after the game which bodes well for him being a Chief (anytime you care what your mom thinks… it’s a plus). Here’s what Watson said after the game (which includes a comment by Rashee Rice 😆😆😆)!

Patrick Mahomes has said:
.
When people talk about me, they talk about
just the arm and that I have a big arm. I
want to be able to change that mindset
to, ‘He’s a great quarterback who just
happens to have a great arm.’”
.
Hey Patrick, i think I speak for most of Chiefs Kingdom when I say, we think you’re pretty great all the way around.
.
.
The Kansas City Chiefs Head Coach, Andy Reid has said this about the Super Bowl:
.
“If you have a piece of chocolate cake,
and you see another dangling in front of
you, you’re going to want it. That’s how
you feel about the Super Bowl. It
is the ultimate chocolate cake.”
.
With another piece of chocolate cake coming up in just a couple of months… let’s eat!
.
George Karlaftis had something to say this week about facing the Green Bay Packers. In an article for ArrowheadPride, Ricko Mendoza called: “Trent McDuffie: ‘We can go out there and beat any offense in this league’” he quotes Karlaftis as saying:
.
“The Packers are rolling. Their quarterback is playing really good ball right now. He could do it all — he can move, and he can throw. You saw what he did against the Lions. They got a good offense. They got good backs. They got good receivers. They got a really good offensive line. So, it’s going to take our best effort. We’re going to try to mix some stuff up and try to do what we do. Just be disciplined and execute on our assignments.”
.
Isiah Pacheco said recently:
.
“Just the noise, that everyone was talking
about how fast the game is. For me the
most important thing was to limit the dis-
tractions and that’s the mentality I
need to have going forward and just
keep it rolling.”
.
Travis Kelce said this about Rashee Rice this week:
.
“He (Rashee Rice) could be a
number one (WR) on this team.”
.
.
Are we excited about the potential for Rashee Rice… not just the rest of this year, but over his whole career!
.
In an article by Ron Kopp called: “L’Jarius Sneed is Teaching — and Learning from — the Rookie Corners” he quotes Sneed as saying:
.
“This is Year 3, and I feel like an old guy. With these young guys coming in? I feel like I’m the veteran of the crew. I see that they’re hungry; they want to be successful. I call Trent ‘Steph Curry.’ He a swift little guy; he can do it all — from the inside to the outside. I see all of them have potential, though. I [could] tell from OTAs they were ready to go from when they first came in. I [could] tell that they were learning a lot, taking everything in and soaking it in.”
.
Trent McDuffie as “Steph Curry.” Wow… I agree and… love it!
