Chiefs: Some 2022 Drop Mic Moments

David Bell

The Kansas City Chiefs are now 26-0 in November and December. The game vs. the Los Angeles Rams was disappointing for both the offense and Special Teams. The Chiefs won with a comfortable margin and they covered the spread, but I felt that the offense played poorly. So, I thought, let’s take a look back at some of the successes with the aerial game from 2022.

Week One: vs the Cardinals on the road. Patrick Mahomes had 5-TD passes in this game. This one below is an Underhanded pass to Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Source Chiefs.com

This game was the 6th time that Mahomes threw 5 TDs in a game.

Week Two: vs The Chargers at Arrowhead: Mahomes cross-grain pass to Jerick McKinnon for a TD! – Source: Chiefs.com

Week Three: was not a memorable game vs. the Colts.

The Chiefs lost to the Colts, 17-20, at Indy. Nothing to see here. There is nothing I want to remember.

Week Four: at Tampa Bay: a Mahomes spin scramble TD, as he scrambles and attacks the LoS. PMII executes a spin move to shed a would-be tackler, then throws a jump pass to CEH for a TD.

Week Five: At Arrowhead vs the Raiders. Patrick Mahomes threw for four TDs in this game which the Chiefs won 30-29. It was a memorable day for Patrick Mahomes to Blake Bell, a 13-yard TD Pass. Here’s a nearly identical play which Bell scored against the Bears in Week One of the Preseason. Unfortunately, it was on this play, in week 5 against the Raiders, that Bell was injured:

Week Six: Chiefs loss at home to the Bills – their second loss of the season. Patrick Mahomes had a solid game and threw for 359 yards in a losing effort. See the highlight film, here:

Week Seven: The Chiefs start their 5 game run vs the 49ers – Mahomes had 423 Yards passing in the game on the road vs. the 49ers. Highlight film here:

Week 8 was the bye week. The Chiefs got rest and healed up.

Week 9: The Chiefs host a nasty Tennessee Titan Team and pulled out an Overtime win, 20-17. In this game, Patrick Mahomes threw for 446 yards and accounted for 509 yards of offense. It was a game which he willed the Chiefs to win. See the highlights:

Week 10: The Chiefs win at home vs the Jacksonville Jaguars. TD pass on a rope from Mahomes to TE Noah Gray.

The Chiefs win the game at Arrowhead 27-17.

Week 11: Chiefs on the Road at LAC. Chiefs win the game coming from behind, 30-27. Mahomes TD Pass to TE Jody Fortson on a slant. A tough game and the score was closer that I was comfortable about.

.

Week 12: Chiefs win vs the Rams at Arrowhead – they win comfortably 26-10. I thought the defense played well but the offense sucked and special teams once again stumbled. TD Pass from Mahomes to Kelce.

Fortunately, the Rams were undermanned, but they did stay in the game. Otherwise, the scoring was done by Harrison Butker.

End Notes: I was so frustrated by the 5 trips into the Red Zone that did not result in a TD that I decided that it would be fun to take a look at some high positives… the reason for this piece. The Chiefs hold the top AFC cede at this point. They face a Bengals team next which has suddenly come to life, and they’ve won 5 out of their last 6. Let’s hope the Chiefs get it all together for week 13. I don’t want to suffer a loss to the Bengals and let them supersede the Chiefs in the AFC race for the Playoff Bye.
