From The Rookie (Tryout) Minicamp

Fans, Pundits, and Analysts are on to the next phase of the Chief’s Off-season training. The Rookie Mini-Camp revealed quite a bit about the 40 players who attended. Two players of the 40 UDFA’s, both offensive linemen, were retained to the 90-man roster:

Chris Glaser(6-4, 310) – OT, VA, and Vataliy Gurman(6-4, 300) – OG, Toledo.

Both players are physical and known for their aggressive run-blocking. Adding these two prospects from the Rookie Tryout camp is a good sign that Brett Veach continues to explore all options for the OL, which must protect QB Patrick Mahomes.

Among all the thoughts I had about the camp, my biggest regret is we had no Edge or IDL Player to whom we could look for in the OTAs. The team did add an IPP player, Kehinde Oginni Hassan. Hassan has initially been tying out as a TE. He is lightweight at 6-7, 225 but has excellent athleticism. Kehinde is now listed on the roster as #67. Mike Rose(6-4, 250) – LB, Iowa St, and Justyn Ross(6-4, 205) – WR, Clemson are intriguing possibilities. Ross is the player that had a congenital problem with his spine and required medical clearance to proceed. He offers something most UDFA players do not – a good shot at making the active roster. I predicted that he would be among the WRs on the active roster. If not for the physical problem, Ross would likely have been a round 2 or round 3 draft pick in the draft. Rose has the size for playing outside. I wonder if it’s possible Spagnuolo and crew will consider such. Lastly, UDFA DB Nasir Greer(6-0, 205) has made the 90-man roster.

The OTA(Organized Team Activities) Schedule:

OTA Group 1: May 25-26.

OTA Group 2: May 31-June 2.

OTA Group 3: June 7-10.

OTA Group 4: Mandatory Minicamp: June 14-16.

As you can see, the group One schedule is only three days away.

Once Again, It’s Wait-n-See Time

Once the team gets to the Mandatory Minicamp, we can all begin to see a few things about the players that you might question or like to see turn out as a success in the Training Camp. Those who follow the off-season as much as the NFL season find these spates of time with no actual activity to be problematic.

Justyn Ross is one player about whom I think highly. The two road-grader-type offensive linemen are another pair. I see Glaser and Gurman as they will be among the players assigned to the practice squad.

Who is your choice among the newcomers?
