Happy Thanksgiving to one and all. Yes, we even exclaim, “Happy Thanksgiving,” to the Chiefs that have bothered us this year. Everyone deserves a greeting of Happy Thanksgiving, so there it is. Having said that, some people in the Chiefs family, I’ll be Giving Spanks to, mostly because they dropped a pass from QB Patrick Mahomes. You may ask, “How could you do that?”… on such a glorious day as this? I guess… because… they deserve it.

To HC Andy Reid, while he keeps taking credit for the team losses, there have been only three losses out of ten games. That’s still a .700% winning percentage. However his play calling may need to be adjusted more for this team to make it’s way through the playoffs. However, Reid is among the top four winningest coaches of all time in the NFL and we should be Thankful he’s here!
.
We should also be Thankful for GM Brett Veach. Many believe hekowtows to his Head Coach way too much, but ask yourself the question: what if he didn’t do that? I still hear many Chiefs Kingdom fans say they miss the previous GM, JOhn Dorsey, but it was Veach who led this team to two Super Bowls in four year. We should be Thankful. While some may list Veach as a loser because of this game, I don’t.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling has dropped waaaay too many balls. His most recent drop of a TD pass from Patrick Mahomes may end up ushering him out of K.C. ultimately. So far this year, he’s had 27 targets and only 14 receptions. 52% doesn’t cut the mustard. Maybe he just needs a good spanking (0:20).

CB Trent McDuffie is a reason to celebrate all by himself, but he plays on a great defense. One to be remembered. On Monday Night Football McDuffie stepped up:

If it was up to me, I’d be suggesting spankings for many of the Chiefs WRs. One of those is Justin Watson. Watson had eleven targets on Monday night but caught only 5 of those passes. It’s easy to see that is less than 50% of his targets. Not good enough. Not nearly.
.
Isaiah Pacheco seems to have come out of nowhere. Actually he was a 7th round pick in the 2022 NFL draft by the Chiefs, a #251 pick. Yep, that’s nowhere… but he came into the Chiefs camp saying “I’m here to take a grown man’s job.” Well, he did. On Monday Night Pop had 19 carries for 89 yards and a 4.7 YPC average.
.
You may be thinking I’m going to list rookie WR Rashee Rice on the Spank Zone… but he was 4 out of 5 in the targets to catch ratio and that works out to 80%. On the other hand, second year man Skyy Moore had one catch with two targets and that’s just 50% which, is not enough. I mistakenly had Skyy Moore pegged to be the Chiefs #1 WR by the end of last season… let’s hope Rashee rice can pull that off.

Is there anyone who blames any of the three losses on Defensive Coordinator Steve Spagnuolo? There should not be anyone either. Spags has made it known that he’d like another shot at a Head Coaching job and he may just end up with one of those positions in 2024. In any event, I am hugely thankful for our DC.
.
I am Thankful for the best organization in the National Football League and that begins with CEO, Clark Hunt. While he has drown criticism for setting up the GM and the Head Coach on equal footing and has them both reporting directly to him, I support that idea and believe it’s one of the reasons this team has elevated itself to 2 Lombardi Trophy’s in 4 years with three appearances over that time span as well. Go Chiefs!
.
Who do you give Thanks for… or Spanks, where appropriate???

P.S. My mother used to use a paddle (much like the one pictured to the left) to spank us kids (4) with while growing up. It was a game paddle called “Bo-Lo Paddle” and there was a red rubble ball attached to a long rubber band-ish thingy. Anyway, she would rip off the ball and try to spank us with it and she kept it on top of the refrigerator. Good times… hehehe………
