Chiefs: Top 5 Most Exciting Home Games of 2024

Laddie Morse

With the NFL releasing the full NFL Game Schedule later today, it might be prudent to take a look at the Chiefs most exciting games at Arrowhead. Any, and every, game played in Arrowhead Stadium is an exciting game. That much I know for sure. Having once been a season ticket holder for every game during one particular — Montana — season for all Kansas City Chiefs games at Arrowhead, I can confidently state this as point of fact. Having grown-up 30 miles east of L.A., I attended Rams and Dodgers games in the L.A. Coliseum, the same L.A. Coliseum which has since been named “The Best Stadium in the NFL”… so I can honestly say “Arrowhead is better than that.” Much better.

So, it’s important to know which are going to be the best games of the 2024 Home Season and for some, this can help them to decide which game(s) to buy tickets for. Here are the Chiefs Home opponents:

It’s already known that the Chiefs first two opponents will be the Baltimore Ravens followed by the Cincinnati Bengals 10 days later. Yes, that means the Chiefs get a long time to prepare for the Bengals game and we all know what that means when Andy Reid gets more time to prepare –> it often means a victory. Without further adieu, let’s get into the Chiefs Most Exciting Home Game of 2024.

Some were saying this could be the Chiefs opening opponent. That’s likely because Tampa QB is Baker Mayfield. Back in 2016, Patrick Mahomes and Baker Mayfield had a high scoring game against each other in college when they scored a combined 125 points in a 66-to-59 win for Oklahoma over Texas Tech in Lubbock. The Mahomes led Chiefs faced off against the Mayfield led Browns team at the end of the 2020 season in Arrowhead in a game decided by 39 points: a 22-to-17 win for K.C.. If that game had not taken place, the first game of the year in 2024 may well have been the Tamps Bay Buccaneers vs the Kansa City Chiefs.

There were others wanting this to be the Chiefs first opponent and mostly because of their new head coach: Jim Harbaugh. I’m particularly interested in this game because Harbaugh likes to pound the ball repeatedly, meaning… he is dedicated to the run. Perhaps more than any other HC I’ve ever witnessed. I call that — > overly dedicated. That approach may have finally won his team a crown in college, but I have my doubts about that kind of offensive scheming in the pro game. Can you say “predictable.” Whenever the Chargers do play the Chiefs this year, it will be high intrigue to see how Harbaugh handles the Chiefs solar powered passing game, while we’ll also get to see how the Chiefs front seven — on defense — handle the Bolts Lamar/King Henry rushing attack.

Many were choosing the Bengals to be the Chiefs opening night opponent. Even though the Chiefs won’t be facing the Bengals until week two, I have my doubts about the medical status of their QB, Joe Burrow.

Even if Burrow does give it a go in week two vs K.C., it will come with some risks for him. I’m not so sure he should be taking that risk.

You could say pretty much the same things about this Harbaugh as you did about the other brother, with the Chargers. While this is the Chiefs opening game, I hardly think it will be the most exciting. Patrick Mahomes is in Lamar Jackson’s head and he can’t get out. The way the Chiefs handle the Ravens is by playing sound football.

While the last game could have been worse for the Ravens, it will be of great interest to see if the Chiefs run a double-Tyreek offense with both Hollywood Brown (who will be playing his avenger’s game) and Xavier Worthy (who will be having his coming out party) in the mix.

Last year’s surprise team was the Houston Texans, who won the AFC South with a 10-and-7 record. This year they bring their skill players and QB C.J. Stroud. Their offense is one to be respected with RB Joe MIxon and WRs Stefon Diggs, Nico Collins, and Tank Dell, with TE Dalton Shultz so, their skill position players are formidable. Also, here what their draft looked like:

The Texans are an up and coming team and not just because they have a very good quarterback… although that doesn’t hurt at all. This game with the Texans should be a terrifically exciting match in Arrowhead. When that will take place… we’ll soon learn tonight, at 8:00 PM EDT, when the NFL releases it’s full schedule.
