Chiefs Top 5 Possible Outcomes for the 2024 Season

Laddie Morse

While it’s been a strange offseason for the Kansas City Chiefs, hasn’t every offseason been a strange one? Perhaps the strangest offseason was twelve years ago when LB Jovan Belcher murdered his girlfriend, Kassandra Perkins at their home then drove the the Chiefs training facility and turned a gun on himself in front of the GM and head coach. That was December of 2012 and what a horrible event it was for those involved.

Although I apologize for bringing that up…

… the Rashee Rice situation is no where near as bad — but he did put lives at risk — as that was, it is a reminder that life is precious and should always be taken seriously. Yes, alcohol was involved so remember not to get too carried away with the booze. I had a brother who I helped dry out many moons ago so also remember to never give up on your family.

Although it doesn’t seem possible, the Chief could come away at the end of this year with a record that is nearly a losing record. Although I don’t beleive this will happen, it is a possibility. What I don’t think is a possibility is a losing record. If the Chiefs start the season at 0-and-2, then this 9-and-8 record is a possibility, otherwise, I just cant see it.

However, Andy Reid had three losing seasons while with the Philadelphia Eagles with two of those coming after his first year. He also had two season of 8-and-8 and the fact that Reid became a better coach in K.C. is not as much of a factor as it was. IOW, it could still happen for him. Hopefully not. But it’s a possibility.

A 10-and-7 record is more of a possibility, but it also likely gets the Chiefs into the playoffs as a wild card team. We know what they can do by merely “making” the playoffs so another Super Bowl following the 2024 season is very much in the cards. The 10-and-7 record requires 7 losses of course and if we’re being honest, those losses could come to the: Ravens, Bengals, 49ers, one to the Raiders, Bills, Texans, and Steelers. If that happens, the Chiefs won’t be top bettings odds winners heading into the playoffs, but you’d have to still count them as a sentimental favorite… right?!

While an 11-and-6 record is in the cards, if the Chiefs get on a roll, it’s hard to see them failing that much. If they do lose 5 games those games will likely be early in the year and if these Chiefs get on a roll… watch out! The Chiefs know how to “turn it on” at the right time of the year and later in the season is that time.

If you missed David Bell’s piece yesterday, check it out, it’s called: “What Are the Odds for LIX? Long or Short, I’m Betting on the Chiefs Anyway!” and in it he predicts the Chiefs will go 13-and-4. I’m just guessing here, but if the Chiefs go 13-and-4 I would say the losses will be to the 49ers, Bill, Texans, and Steelers. The only Home game is vs. the Texans. Here’s what David Bell said in his article:

A perfect record is not out of the question for this team. Certain things must fall into place for that to happen.

The perfect record is something I’ve predicted before so I’m familiar with it. Also, in 1972 the Miami Dolphins had a perfect record and that’s what the Chiefs will be aiming to do in 2024. To do that, they’ll have to overcome some unusual situations like the Dolphins did in 1972.

The Dolphins had a starting QB, Bob Griese, break his ankle in week 5 and he was backed up by 38 year old Earl Morrall. So, what did the Dolphins do? They ran the ball. A lot. Larry Csonka and Mercury Morris both had 1,000+ seasons. Not that they gave up on the passing game. Paul Warfield led the team in receptions but only had 29 or those, along with 606 yards through the air and only three TDs. The major difference in today’s game and the agme of the 70s is that today is all about passing.

Also, the Dolphins only needed to win 14 games in their regular season plus three playoff games to finish a perfect 17-and-0. Obviously, the Chiefs will need to win all of their 17 regular season games and then their final three or four playoff games to finish with a perfect record.

Am I betting on the Chief to go perfect? No, I’m not. However, just like David Bell, I think they could win it all.
