Laddie Morse
This has been the longest offseason ever. By mathematical standards, that’s not at all true, but it sure does feel that way. With the 14-and-3 Kansas City Chiefs beating the 14-and-3 Philadelphia Eagles on February 12, the Chiefs were actually involved in one of the longest seasons ever and for these two teams, the offseason has been shorter than any other NFL teams.

Today is the day when Chiefs players will report to St. Joseph and Missouri Western State University campus so they can set up their living quarters in preparation for camp which actually gets under way this coming weekend. Nine simi-trucks of equipment have previously made the trip so as far as the staff is concerned, the new season has already arrived.
This camp will be critical for determining who will make the roster. While many are concerned about the Offensive Line… I’m not.

With RT Jawaan Taylor, RG Trey Smith, OC Creed Humphrey, LG Joe Thuney, and LT Donovan Smith, the Chiefs should have an upgraded Ol and possibly the best unit since Willie Roaf and Will Shield were the glue.
Since the OL should be stellar, so too should the RB position. With Isiah Pacheco, Jerick McKinnon, Clyde Edwards-Helaire battling with UDFA Deneric Prince for the last spot, things look bright in RB land. So bright that bth might be keepers… especially if Special Teams coach Dave Toub decides to put Prince back as the Kick-off returner.
The biggest need on this roster now appears to eb the DT position. Even if (when) GM Brett Veach re-news a contract for Chris Jones this coming week, he may end up deciding to re-structure CB L’Jarius Sneed instead of making any other moves. A move I’m in favor of… even though the Chiefs have a recent history of not bringing back CBs they’ve drafted or developed.
With a Super Bowl ring in everyone’s pocket, the Chiefs look in as good a shape heading into this camp as they have been before any recent training camp. Especially with the best QB in the league returning in his prime.
