Chiefs Training Camp Day 10:
OPEN THREAD
by Laddie Morse
Mid to upper 90 degrees is not ideal temperature for a football game… much less a two and a half hour practice. Head Coach Andy Reid didn’t recognize the high heat having an affect on the team but several bloggers and posters who attended the practice said it was “lethargic.”
This practice can be summed up by Sammy Watkins dropping an easy slant from Patrick Mahomes in 7-on-7 with no one on him. Pretty lethargic outing today on both sides of the ball.

Patty Takes – You’re Number One!
Just to sooth those who are not sure which QB is the real starter:
Take a look at the rest for yourself.
Spoiler alert: Patrick Mahomes is QB1 pic.twitter.com/ytwjLusR5A

Seriously, I don’t know why some people post the things they do.
It’s critical that Andy Reid set expectations for these Training Camp practices. Those expectations may not be the same as game day expectations so outlining that and making sure everyone understand that is job one. Reid does a good job in that sense:
The #Chiefs expectations for QB Patrick Mahomes must be clear cut, and I believe they are. Here, both HC Andy Reid, and Mahomes, discuss those expectations.#ChiefsCamp #ChiefsKingdom #ArrowheadOne pic.twitter.com/LUiHz9VAm4

Dandy Duel of the Day
This duel should maybe not be on the list because it turned out to be not such a duel at all:

What makes this duel worse is that Hill keeps on running right off the field ala Bo Jackson running down the tunnel after scoring a TD. Pitting Tyreek Hill — the fastest man in the NFL — against CB Step Durham — an UDFA rookie — is beyond unfair. Of course, it might be said that pitting Hill against anyone, is unfair.
Turning Up the Watt-age
Armani Watts has been getting noticed in camp.

Say the word “Safety” and I think of the big hits that Eric Berry has provided for years now. When watching Armani Watts game tape, you can see those same kinds of hits over and over again. That’s one of the reasons I was excited to see Watts in Training Camp. Now that he’ on the field, apparently, he hasn’t disappointed.
Chiefs Could Go On the Dieter’s Diet
Wide receivers Gehrig Dieter, Blake Mack, Byron Pringle, and Marcus Kemp — to name a few — are all having a very good camp. It will be surprising if at least one of these young men don’t make the team.

Since @RealMNchiefsfan brought him up – a few nice grabs from Arkansas State UDFA Blake Mack in red zone drills. Liked what I saw. pic.twitter.com/ewFh7Pb6bb

Dandy Duel of the Day II
CB Arrion Springs has been laying it all on the line every single day of Training Camp. He deserves talk like we’ve been giving to Tremon Smith. He’s been that good in coverage. It’s hard to see how the Chiefs could cut a CB with cover skills as good as this:

What Time? Justin Time!
I re-watched the Chiefs season opener in New England from last year this weekend. Here’s my favorite play… besides all the times Kareem Hunt touched the ball. Sorry I could only find blurry videos of this play. Still, if you’re a Chiefs fan… the thrill if never gone.
Justin Houston with a sack in the 4th Q with the Chiefs up a touchdown against Tom Brady, forcing 2nd and 17 and putting the Pats in desperation mode. I feel like this was an impact play. pic.twitter.com/Z6SAIBzW7j

The #Chiefs snuffed out the New England Patriots in New England on opening day last year. I was re-watching that game this weekend and when Justin Houston Houston sacked Tom Brady my toes began to tingle, like when Santa comes each year.#ChiefsKingdom #ChiefsCamp #ArrowheadOne pic.twitter.com/2YEIGZ9NUf

If Justin Houston says he’ll be better than that in 2018… I will be one Jolly Holly Happy Ole Chiefs Fan.
