It may be day 2 or it may be day 5… it all depends on your vantage point. If you count the days last week with the QBs and the Rookies, it’s day 5. I’m sure Patrick Mahomes thinks it’s Day 5 too. Here’s what the day before yesterday looked like (9:19):

Good news… the Chiefs Defense will be good again this season, even without Willie Gay and L’Jarius Sneed (10:19):

The Chiefs Offense, at best, ranks 17th in the Red Zone in scoring TDs in 2023. Here’s some data adapted from StatMuse.com:

So, any Red Zone improvement will be important on the way to a Three-peat. You would think the Chiefs will be better there with the quickness of Hollywood Brown and Xavier Worthy plus the second-year experience of Rashee Rice.

Concerning Rashee Rice… his possible suspension by the NFL hasn’t been talked about with CEO Clark Hunt… yet.

Kay Adams makes it clear that Patrick Mahomes can get even better:

A BETTER Patrick Mahomes? Wow. Just WOW!

My Training Camp Take
George Karlaftis will be even better than last year. More importantly, so will Chris Jones (especially if Andy Reid gives him some time off from his Training Camp regimen… hehe). We’ll miss L’Jarius Sneed at first, but he’ll be forgotten by mid-season because of the players in the defensive backfield balling out. Willie Gay and his speed will be missed at times, but the instincts of Nick Bolton and Drue Tranquill, plus the braun of Leo Chenal will make this the best LB-ing corp since the 1960s when K.C. had Willie Lanier, Bobby Bell and Jim Lynch.
The offense will be better, ultimately, but won’t start out that way and that doesn’t necessarily mean they will Three-peat. A lot must happen for that kind of excellence to take place. Every team in the league will be gunning for the Chiefs and some will shoot them down. Some games will be saved by Matt Araiza flipping the field with his long distance punts, plus Harrison Butker will be kicking very long field goals. The NFL record of 66-yards by Justin Tucker may be in play here. RB Isiah Pacheco will have his best year and break the 1,000+ yards barrier. He may also end up accounting for 1,500 all-purpose yards. It’s not that big of a stretch to say that because he had 1,140 all purpose yards in 2023. Oh yeah, and if Patrick Mahomes does show improvement — like Kay Adams suggests — the rest of the league should watch out!
