Chiefs: Trouble Over Bridgewater

Chiefs: Trouble Over Bridgewater – I was not worried about yesterday’s game. At all. After all, we are the Super Bowl Champions. And they are? Well, they’re the Panthers. The Carolina Panthers. No problem, right? Wrong. There was trouble in the waters, a bridge over troubled waters, or trouble over Bridgewater. I’m not quite sure, but it was one of those… and it was assuredly troubling if you’re a Chiefs fan.

View from the Cheap Seats

Like most of you, I sat dumbfounded for the entire first half, wondering how the lowly Panthers could, in the wackiest of worlds, be atop of our Chiefs, 17-13, as they headed to their respective locker rooms, as the whistle blew to put an end to the Chiefs first thirty-minutes worth of suffering. Not only had the Panthers outscored the Red and Gold, they were 2-for-2 in Red Zone efficiency and had possession of the ball for almost twenty of the first thirty minutes. In short, they dominated that first half much more than the score at the time reflected.

However, we are the Chiefs and we have a cheetah-like receiver faster than a speeding bullet… a quarterback more powerful than a locomotive… a coach able to leap tall deficits with a single quarter. Despite outstanding play, and play calling by the Panthers, the Chiefs prevailed. We are actually, the SuperChiefs, and… we are sorely in need of our Bye Week which starts now.

Stat of the Game

TE Travis Kelce tied ex-Cardinal great, Jackie Smith, for the 4th-most games with 100+ receiving yards by a TE since 1950 (with 22 each).

Game Song: Carolina In My Mind

The game song is the great American troubadour James Taylor’s: Carolina In My Mind. Perhaps if the Chiefs had kept Carolina in their mind during practice last week, or yesterday’s game would not have been so anxiety-inducing for the fair citizens of Chiefs Kingdom. As for me, “In my mind, I’m done with Carolina!

… and the Game Ball Goes To…

He may not have been the recipient of any touchdown passes yesterday, but Travis Kelce, was who he needed to be when he needed to be it, and where Mahomes needed him to be, when he needed him to be there. In short, Kelce was, Kelce: 10 catches for 159 yards. Travis Kelce now has 769 receiving yards in the first 9 games of the 20202 season. He averaged 15.9 yards per receptions vs the Panthers.

How’d I Do?

I predicted a 42-6 Chiefs victory in my last column. Like most weeks, I was wrong. Well, really wrong actually. Carolina quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, and teammate Christian McCaffrey made a liar out of me and almost made a fool of our beloved Chiefs. Truth be told, I need to take a break from the (attempt at) prognostication. I suck!

Mercifully, there is no looking ahead this week as the Chiefs have a Bye. So, I have taken it upon myself to enjoy a Bye, as well. While the Chiefs deserve theirs, my performance in this section may reveal that thus far, this year, I do not.

I must apologize for the absence of the Today In Chiefs History section which normally adorns the upper-right-hand corner of ArrowheadOne. I normally keep us a few weeks ahead, but have been under the weather the past few weeks. All is well now, and it’s back. Hopefully, there won’t be anymore glitches. BTW, did you know that yesterday… in Chiefs history… Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw his 100th touchdown in just 40 games. Chiefly speaking: that’s historic.
