Chiefs: “T’was the Week Before Super Bowl”

T’was the Week Before Super Bowl

by Paul Pulley

T’was the week before Super Bowl

And all through the lands

Everyone was preparing

Including the bands

The Chiefs finally get there

After a half century wait

Let’s take a look back

At what changed their fate

Andy brought in new coaches

A new defense to weave

He hired Matt, Brendan and Dave

And had them all led by Steve

New players were brought in

Brett hired a few

The big guns he signed

Were Clark and Mathieu

Off season excitement

Was at a feverish pitch

Record crowds showed at camp

Pulled off with no hitch

The roster assembled

By Brett and Andy with care

A most daunting task

Accomplished by this pair

To Jacksonville for game one

For a while things seemed lost

We came home with a victory

But oh my, at what cost

Pat twisted his ankle

And the injuries begun

Tyreek hurt his shoulder

Cheetah could no longer run

Weeks two, three and four

Victories in all three

The circumstances seemed dire

Continued the injury spree

Week five was a let down

Week six was the same

So many starters injured

My oh my, what a shame

Week seven was at Denver

Things got back on track

The defense improved

The offense was back

Then the quarterback sneak

We all thought, what the heck

The ankle forgotten

The knee looked a wreck

Pat missed only two games

Matt Moore was the man

He did a great job indeed

Thought I, as a fan

Then to Tennessee we went

Mahomes did the most

So many things went wrong

The victory went to the host

Off to Mexico City

The winning streak began

Rivers last pass picked off

By good ol’ Dirty Dan

The bye week came next

Players started to feel fine

Things were coming together

This team was beginning to shine

We beat Oakland and the Pats

We simply had no cares

We defeated the Broncos

And then crushed the Bears

The final week was upon us

The Chargers next to defeat

Miami beat New England

This day double sweet

Playoffs started with a bye

Then Houston came to town

The game started poorly

The Chiefs twenty four down

The Texans had hope

But the Chiefs sealed their fate

It’s not often a team

Can score forty one straight

The Titans came next

And as hard as they tried

There was no way these Chiefs

Were going to be denied

There was never any doubt

As fans near and far

Celebrated winning the trophy

The one named for Lamar

So it’s off to Miami

For one of sports biggest games

A victory on the horizon

Forever we’ll remember their names

So friends, fellow Chiefs fans

As you go off to your beds

Let visions of Lombardi’s

Dance around in your heads.

See you at the Parade!
