Chiefs: Two Way Too Early Mocks

Chiefs: Two Way Too Early Mocks – I wanted to take a look ahead at the NFL Draft in 2021. Why? Well, because I was a bit ill due to the Chiefs game versus the dastardly, evil men in Black and Silver in Week 5. I framed my construct based on what I was seeing and knowing the weaknesses on the roster, at this point in time.

The first example forced my hand in a way that I felt I had to choose the offensive line players, based on my view at that point in the draft. I can say that I really like Dylan Moses as having a good shot to succeed as an NFL Linebacker for the Chiefs. I also felt that Jordyn Peters in a late round choice would be a shot at bringing in a CB who might surprise us with ability. Of Special note for me is that LB’s available allowed me to pick two of them. Moses as noted, but so was Chazz Surratt of North Carolina as well. Note: both od these mocks were done a firstpick.com: here’s the first one.

Round 1 Pick 23: Dylan Moses, ILB/OLB, Alabama (A)
Round 2 Pick 23: Deonte Brown, OG, Alabama (A)
Round 3 Pick 22: Chazz Surratt, ILB/OLB, North Carolina (A)
Round 4 Pick 23: Jimmy Morrissey, C, Pittsburgh (A+)
Round 5 Pick 23: Nyles Pinckney, DT, Clemson (A+)
Round 7 Pick 7: Ben Petrula, OT, Boston College (A+)
Round 7 Pick 23: Jordyn Peters, CB, Auburn (A+)

First Pick Grade: 38,459 (A)

I wanted to take a good shot in both mocks to address the OL and the ILB’s also. In the Second example, I was not able to get the LB’s I wanted early so I focused on CB and the OL.

Round 1 Pick 25 (CHI): Paulson Adebo, CB, Stanford (A)
Round 2 Pick 23: Deonte Brown, OG, Alabama (A)
Round 3 Pick 22: Thayer Munford, OT, Ohio State (A+)
Round 3 Pick 24 (CHI): Trey Hill, C/OG, Georgia (A+)
Round 4 Pick 23: Dimitri Moore, ILB/OLB, Vanderbilt (A+)
Round 5 Pick 25 (CHI): Jimmy Morrissey, C, Pittsburgh (A+)
Round 5 Pick 32 (SEA): Camryn Bynum, CB, California (A+)
Round 7 Pick 7: Jordan Davis, DT, Georgia (A+)

First Pick Grade: 42,545 (A)

Note: Only getting only an “A” Grade (with no +) while scoring 42.5K points on this mock gets one response from me: SHEESH!

Rebuilding the offensive line group was a goal while I’m aware that the Chiefs would have Lucas Niang rejoining the effort in 2021. I was able to get CB Paulson Adebo. This choice was the right one for the position in the draft. I tend not to draft west coast college players because, well, they are west coast and will be tied to living in Cali for example. Adebo though, appears to me to be a top flight CB who could merge easily into DC Steve Spagnuolo’s defense and would have great coaching from Dave Merritt and Sam Madison.

My thought on the OL brings another OT to the fold. What I see here stems from the need to replace both Fisher and Schwartz in upcoming seasons. They will be 31 and 30 for the 2021 season. Deonte Brown is going to be a quick starter at OG, as I believe, will be Trey Hill: I am thinking the Chiefs could train him up as an OC. Even so, I drafted a pure center later along with another CB to add to the fold.

Suddenly, I am disheartened by Ben Niemann and his performance so far this year.  So, in the Second Mock, having traded back, and then traded up, my focus was on finding a LB who would fit, but the timing and positioning of the Chiefs spot in the draft caused a delay to round 4 and selecting Dimitri Moore. Looking at Moore gives me a run stopping big body LB to match with the existing players, replacing at least one.

Let me know what you think? Do you have any other prospects you’re hoping catch the scouting eyes of our Kansas City Chiefs?
