Chiefs: Ugly, Cardiac, Flawed, Lucky

The Kansas City Chiefs could be called: Ugly, then they could be called the Cardiac Kids, they could also be called a Flawed team… and there’s no doubt, they are just plain Lucky.

All of the above can be true and all of the above have been said about these Kansas City Chiefs. It can also be said that the Chiefs are more than just Patrick Mahomes (a 80.6 rating v the Bengals) or Travis Kelce (1 catch v the Bengals)… and that they win as a TEAM. Here’s Chase Daniel:

Chase Daniel said the Chiefs sent a message to the entire league? My question is… what message?

In 1972, the Dolphins were behind the Minnesota Vikings 6-to-14 in the Third Quarter, but a 4th quarter 51 yard Garo Yepremian Field Goal and a 3 yard TD pass by Bob Griese, pulled out a win for those Dolphins who went on to be the league’s only unbeaten team… ever. They ended up winning that game by the very close score of 16-to-14.

Now, I’m not saying that these Chiefs will go unbeaten on their way to a Three-peat, but these Chiefs have the chance to be that great. Sometimes the “greatness” come from the offense and sometimes it comes from the defense (in specific moments):

In the most recent game against the Bengals, the Chiefs won on a 51 yard Field Goal by Harrison Butker. Chiefs Reporter, Matt McMullen, wrote a piece called, “Chiefs Defeat Bengals, 26-25, in Last-Minute Thriller” in which he said:

A couple of Don Cockcroft Field Goals for the 1980 Cleveland Browns gave them the original name: Cardiac Kids (Kardiac Kids). Now, the Chiefs could easily gain that moniker.

Flawed? That goes both ways when it comes to Penalties not being called:

(0:10)

It’s hard to explain how the Chiefs can win one week based on a toe being out of bounds and then turn around and win in the second week based on a foot kicking a 51 yard Field Goal attempt… that just so happened to be good.

Also, the outcome of Sunday’s game against the Bengals proves the Chiefs can win a street brawl if necessary… if it turns into one.

What do you think?
