Many a pundit has called this past game on Christmas Day the wort of Patrick Mahomes career. Let’s take a look.
.
.
That’s from an article written by John Dillion for Chiefs Wire called, “Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes earned career-worst PFF grade vs. Raiders in Week 16.” Dillon covers how PFF graded the game. It’s hard to argue with their stats… if they are actually stats. What do I mean by that? The grades that PFF hands out are grades created by fallible humans, that’s what. This is the reason I don’t often use their “stats” anymore.
.
In an article written by Jared Schwartz for the New York Post called, “This could’ve been ‘worst’ game of Patrick Mahomes-Chiefs era: Kurt Warner” and he quotes Kurt Warner as saying,
.
.
That’s fairly damming, but I get it.
.
The daileymail.com goes further than that saying that, “Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is having ‘the worst season of his career’ says NFL analyst Danny Kanell after Kansas City is beaten by the Las Vegas Raiders on Christmas Day.” So, this game has evoked the analysts to say that Mahomes could be having the worst season of his life. The article is written by Terrell Feaster and he says:
.
“Career high interceptions with 14, six losses the most he’s endured in the regular season, and we’re talking about three home losses at Arrowhead. The AFC Championship game to this point has been the Arrowhead invitational, for the first time if they get their they’ll have to go through a road opponent to get to the Super Bowl.”
.
14 INTs and 6 losses… now those bad enough stats to choke a chicken and also support the idea that this is Patrick Mahomes worst season.
.
A-to-ZSports.com has a piece out that says, “Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes had worst game of his career vs. Raiders in Week 16” by Jay Biggerstaff and he says in his article:
.
“The box score might not necessarily reflect it, but this was perhaps the worst game of Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs career. He finished the game with 27 completions on 44 passing attempts (61.4%), 235 yards passing, one touchdown, one interception, a fumble lost, and a second fumble that he was lucky to recover. He also managed 10 carries for 53 yards on the day, which was probably the biggest bright spot.”
.
Finally, ArrowheadPride has an article out called, “The Raiders game might have been the worst of Patrick Mahomes’ career” written by Tom CHilds and in it he says,
.
“One hundred ninth: That’s where this
Patrick Mahomes game ranks by EPA per
drive among all his career starts.
(He’s started 109 games.)”
.
Childs goes on to say, and I agree with this:
.
“I’ve spent all season on Chiefs Are Gonna Be Fine Boat. I’ve acknowledged that this Chiefs offense is worse than it’s been in seasons past, and worse than it should be, given how good Mahomes is—but I’ve still believed that Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid can lift the unit come playoff time. This is my last chance to switch sides, but I think I’m gonna stay on this boat. I won’t be surprised at all by a competent Chiefs offense in the playoffs, as Reid pulls trick after trick out of his sleeve to keep this unit afloat.”
.
Was that Mahomes worst game ever? Yes, but do I expect him to keep going down that same rabbit hole? Not on your life. If there is one team in the coming playoffs that other teams DON’T want to face… it will be the Chiefs.
