Chiefs Week in Review – The Kansas City Chiefs have had a busy offseason, even in the midst of the pandemic, and none more busy than this past week. Let’s take a look at the past several days and catch up with our favorite team.
Fred Arbanas: Michael Travis Rose
On Monday, Michael Travis Rose published a great piece on Fred Arbanas. You can read that article right here.
NFL Protocols for Re-Opening
Albert Breer delivered the NFL documents outlining what teams must do to re-open their facilities on Monday,
Some of those protocols for re-opening include:
If you’re really into some “light” reading you can read the 9 page PDF document by the NFL here.
Tyrann Mathieu: The Landlord
A couple of days ago the Chiefs Safety, Tyrann Mathieu put out this video to show how he’s committed to helping people who can’t afford to pay their own rent right now. God Bless you Mr. Mathieu!
Patrick Mahomes: Black Lives Matter
Last week, Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes and Safety Tyrann Mathieu, participated in a video about Black Lives Matter.
Mahomes also made a public statement showing his leadership when it comes to this issue:
Here’s a Chiefs Press Conference Zoom interview with Mahomes about his participation:
It’s important to understand that many people are saying Black Lives Matter now, because for the past few hundred years (or more), they have not. To get a better idea of what this means to us: if you call the Fire Department to come and put a fire out at your house, the Fire Department does not come to your street and direct the water hoses to all the houses on your street, only the one that’s on fire. White lives have mattered for time immemorial… so saying, “All Lives Matter” just means… you don’t get it, yet. Also, this is not to say Black Lives Matter More than other’s lives. It means Black Lives Matter equally to everyone else’s. So now, it’s time for all of us, especially white people, to proclaim: Black Lives Matter.
Bravo to Patrick Mahomes and Tyrann Mathieu.
X Factor Bobblehead
This week, FOCO has released a Bobblehead of Dante Hall, which you can now order here.
Any time Dante Hall’s name comes up, I just can’t resist reviewing his highlights against the Broncos. Enjoy!
CEH: Most Productive 2020 Rookie
Cynthia Frelund of NFL.com has projected Clyde Edwards-Helaire will be the #1 Most Productive Rookie in the 2020 NFL season. Here’s her reasoning:
“Between Edwards-Helaire’s knack for earning yards after contact last season (SEE: an SEC-best 782 yards, per Pro Football Focus) and his top-level ability to break tackles in both the running (71, most in the SEC) and passing games (14, third-most of draft-eligible backs), he displays key attributes that project for success at the next level. Based on his past play-calling tendencies, Andy Reid’s game plan likely includes plenty of touches for both Damien Williams and Edwards-Helaire, who has a lot of upside as a pass catcher. The Chiefs’ personnel continuity from last season could also help pave a shorter path to Edwards-Helaire being a very productive contributor — the more experience the other offensive pieces have, the more focus and time can be spent on the rookie back’s role.”
God bless Louis Riddick as he thinks the Chiefs might have to be outlawed this year because Clyde Edwards-Helaire may make them Chiefs offense, ILLEGAL. hehe
What some fans may be missing about CEH is that he was the first RB in SEC history to ever rush for 1,000+ yards with 50+ receptions. To add a player of his caliber to the Chiefs already potent offense does seem like it should be outlawed (except to Chiefs fans). If you’re unfamiliar with Brett Kollman’s YouTube channel and his ability to breakdown NFL players, you may want to tune into his channel some time. Here, he gives us his feedback on CEH prior to the NFL draft.
A Shorter NFL Preseason?
Tom Pelissero revealed that conversations between the NFL and the NFL Players Association are taking place about the possibility of the NFL Preseason being shortened:
Andy Reid on The Herd
In case you missed it, Andy Reid was interviewed by Colin Herd and he get in a good jab at him over his selecting the Broncos to win the AFC West.
K.C. Sports Commission Awards
Three Chiefs won awards from the Kansas City Sports Commission on Friday evening. They include:
Saturday Was Busy Too
I’m not a fan of Colin Cowherd, but he published a 1:06 video about the Chiefs straight A’s for: Owner, GM, Head Coach, and A+ for their QB — Patrick Mahomes — saying that because of this, the Chiefs will be good for a long time. I just don’t know why he also has the Broncos winning the AFC West? A bit cray-cray if you ask me.
J.J. Watt on the Right Side of History
Not only has the Houston Texans HC Bill O’Brien said this week that he will kneel during the anthem, but on Saturday one of the NFL’s biggest white stars, J.J. Watt, has joined in:
Kelce, Dieter, Mahomes Workout
Finally, on Saturday, Nate Taylor of the Athletic, reported that the Chiefs are ready to go in his piece called, ‘I’m excited to get back’: Without start date for camp, Chiefs vow to be ready.” Taylor also shared a video of Travis Kelce, Gehrig Dieter, and Patrick Mahomes working out together. Here’s that vid:
Nate Taylor quotes Tyrann Mathieu:
“I think we’ve actually gotten a little bit better, a little smarter. Hopefully, most guys have been using this time to make sure their body is right, making sure their mind is right, because we have been through a lot these last couple of months. To go to football season, it’s going to take great leadership. There’s going to be a lot on people’s minds. Us as a team, we’ve got to be able to use that as our advantage. We’ve got to be able to lock in and really be there for each other. I’m looking forward to it.”
Lastly, Andy Reid said something this week that’s worth repeating:
“Whatever situation that’s presented to us, we’re going to dominate that and work our tails off to be great.”
“We’re going to dominate.” Indeed! Go Chiefs!
