This game should be another nail-biter. The questions come ready-made! In my view of all things “Chiefs”… there is always the Mahomes Factor! Because of this “Factor” I will always believe the Chiefs have a leg up on the competition, and for now, that means 4 of 5 wins, the Chiefs over Frisco.
Perhaps the real problem is… can the Chiefs Defense hold off the 49ers? DC Steve Spagnuolo will become the focal point. In my view of things, even without RB Christian McCaffrey, the Chiefs will have a tough row to hoe!
What are the Defensive Building Blocks for Success?
CJ must dominate the game – when they run and via the pass rush! Also…
.
- Trent Mcduffie must continue to be a shut-down CB!
- The Chiefs LBs must dominate the ground game & manage pass defense at the same time.
- Justin Reid and Brian Cook need to be at the top of their combined games.
- Jaylen Watson must continue his defense sets.
- Where it does matter? PM II needs to play good football which is the bottom line of whether the Chiefs will succeed, or not!
- Spags matters! Count on a good game from the Chiefs Defense!
.
I was sitting here thinking of what I would write to build up to a finale. Unfortunately, I had an order to go to the grocery store and ended up spending 1 1/2 hours here instead of going grocery shopping… for heaven’s sake!
Note: All of this was really due to a complete road blockage on US 290-East. Very frustrating. I ended up going to US 290 West for 2 miles, then a Hwy North, then East, then West to get to my destination – and I had to do some deep breathing exercises to get the job done. Needless to say, I am not always a real patient man.
.
Speaking of Real Patience
There are times that I am fuming, so here are a few that get my goat!
.
- Brett Veach, GM is a horrid GM – it’s not the truth! It is a ludicrous idea!
- Andy Reid can’t handle the duties of an HC? Give me a complete breakdown of that one!
- Travis Kelce is washed up! – Show me how that is true!
- Juju Smith-Schuster cannot get the job done? – How’s that again?
- Xavier Worthy can’t be the #1WR who goes Deep for KC? – Now here it’s on Andy Reid! Reid has got to cut the cords and set Worthy Free.
- CJ is not the consummate gamer? Give me a freakin’ break!
.
There are more I could list, but it borders on the ludicrous!
.
What are the Game Factors vs. the 49ers?
I don’t choose to dwell on the negative. Sure, the Chiefs could falter and lose this particular game. I’d prefer they lose this game if it meant a rematch of the 49ers vs. the Chiefs in the coming Super Bowl. Far better to win the big match-up than a regular season game. Be that as is:
.
- The Chiefs need to dominate, the Chiefs Defense way – That means that KC needs to be in top form for the Spagnuolo-led defense.
- Travis Kelce needs to find the niche and win out over the 49ers’ defense.
- CJ must have a dominant ground & pass rush game –> right now!
- The Chiefs LB corp must shut down the run game – it’s a pure and simple game plan!
- Role-players must do their duty.
.
Things I’d Like to See Happen?
.
- Xavier Worthy rolls and has a big game!
- JuJu dominates the intermediate and short routes and has a huge game.
- Does Skyy Moore have a decent game??
- LBs Nick Bolton and Drue Tranquill dominate the middle of the field – something that they have done in the past
- Kareem Hunt gets it all done — The Hunt Factor!
.
Things I Wish For?
It can happen, but needs to as soon as possible:
.
- Felix Anudike-Uzomah takes over a game.
- Justin Watson has a magnificent game and scores 2-TDs!
- DL Mike Pennel shuts down the run.
- Kareem Hunt gets off big time!
.
With two games notched on Kareem Hunt’s belt, he has entered the fray and it’s my view, his week seven game will end up being top drawer:
Nate Taylor wrote about Hunt today:
.
“Running back Kareem Hunt is again a member of the
Chiefs, a development neither he nor the organization
could have anticipated before the season. Hunt joined
the Chiefs less than a month ago after starter Isiah
Pacheco broke his right fibula in Week 2.”
.
.
The Chiefs selected Hunt in the third round of the
2017 draft. As a rookie, he led the league with 1,327
rushing yards. But he was released Nov. 30, 2018,
after TMZ Sports posted a video of him shoving and
kicking a woman in a hallway of a Cleveland hotel
on Feb. 10, 2018. At one time, the belief inside the
Chiefs organization was the team would never
allow Hunt to wear a Chiefs uniform again. After
his sudden release, the team also noted Hunt lied
about the incident on multiple occasions, including
conversations with club owner Clark Hunt.
.
.
Hunt has been very productive in the last two games.
He gained 117 all-purpose yards & a touchdown on 28
touches in the Chiefs’ Monday night victory over the
Saints.
.
Finally
Patrick Mahomes needs to have a complete win vs. the 49ers. It’s the Mahome’s Factor!
In a piece by Eric Williams for FOX SPORTS called:
.
.
.
“Brady might be the GOAT, but when it comes to
the clutch gene, Mahomes is right there with him.
Both QBs are known for their ability to close out games
in the fourth quarter, both in the regular season and
the postseason. Just look at the data, courtesy of FOX
Sports research.”
.
.
Is all this Wishful thinking?
I don’t believe that is to be the case. I do think it will be a close game, however. My game prediction is likely something a bit of a bigger score than many might consider: Chiefs 28-49ers 25.
.
Where We Go from Here?
The Chiefs are the best NFL team in the game. Sure, it’s quite unlikely that a team in this era puts out results in a perfect regular season record. I have my doubts about that idea altogether. I do believe that the Chiefs will finish out their 6th game and come away with a 6-0 record. Would I wager on it? Yes, I think I will.
